Can we have an agreement we will no longer post unsubstantiated stories from murky, unknown and plain out crazy news websites? It's getting to the point that it's not only misleading but getting dangerous.

This sounds great in theory but what is the genuine litmus test on "fake news"? Where do you draw the line? Is breitbart off the table but some douche bag on HuffPo slides in under the radar?

Anything other than genuine news(man shoots wife, children in Anchorage; Trump announces cuts in miltary, etc.) could be considered "fake news". On TV, what passes for news is just a round table of people bitching back and forth. Online outlets are the same or similar people complaining about various issues. Once you start censoring specific people/websites, the sky is the limit on what else needs to be censored.

Even though its not in the rules I think we all agree that websites seriously spewing racism and hate are off the table regardless of any points they make. While I didn't post anything, a few weeks ago I was reading about home invasions. In my search results was a website called stormfront. While I didn't dig deep as all I read was the story, its basically a white power site. Had I posted the story about that family murdered, I'd know not to use that as the link/source.

Really? Don't you think those on the right would disagree?

YOu would have to take an absolute bipartisan approach to this and I don't know if its possible. I could probably call it down the middle but since its obvious that I do lean to the right on certain issues, some people would have issues with it......including me.

Once again I'm impressed how the left just flips the narrative. For a year now they are the ones who have been under fire for all their fake news reporting. The President even made it a part of his campaign. Not a peep from the left about this then.

And now suddenly the right are the culprits of this? Don't you all see how silly and, well, fake this comes off? Just throw back any accusations made?

Let's just take the last few months:

Bill was a rapist
No, Trump is the rapist!
Bill was buddy with Epstein
No, Trump is the pedo!
Hillary will rig the election
No, Trump rigged the election!
Podesta is a Satanist
No, Trump is the satanist!

It's as if a bot wrote it.

See, this is where adults know the difference in what's real and what's fake because rational adults dont spend the majority of their time in crazy pants land.

Has nothing to do with the fact that he's right. I get your point about what's fake but all of that he listed was spewed by them.

Having said that, in general there is hypocrisy on both sides of the fence.

Just as I said a few days ago...all those deeply rooted conservative beliefs...POOF...all up in smoke. Today the same people who warned us all of socialism under Obama now applaud Trump for government intervention in the private sector. From the right wing media all the way down to posters in this thread.

Of course too his Carrier "deal" isn't much to brag about, but I find the hypocrisy from conservatives to be a much bigger story.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Eight years ago I was whining for Obama to do this very thing and now Trump is doing it.

I'm not a typical conservative but still.....I don't see why anyone would have a problem with jobs staying in this country regardless of which politician is doing it.

Meanwhile the DNC is about to nominate a blatant racist who has openly praised the Nation of Islam and Farakhan to its chairmanship.  No claims from reporters from a suspect source without any actual evidence.  You can google this guy and find clips where he's praised people who openly advocate racial superiority.

Didn't you get the memo that its racist to point out these facts?

Even that hike is suspect. She can barely walk and is on heavy medication, but is out climbing the terrain?

I thought aht was funny too. She has to be carried into a van yet the next day is climbing the summit of Everest.

1) Republicans have a great way of using information to divide people

14 Come on Mitch. Did you post that with a straight face?

Now if you had said both sides do that.....might be believable.

All those things you listed that you "learned" were learned by most people during Obama's administration....not during the recent election.

You didn't slap around any conservatives with that list. Just pointed out all the tactics used to get Obama in office and keep him there.

Did a pretty good job of it too....

Republicans need to stand up and do the right thing and block Flynn and Tillerson. If there is no Russia connection then prove it by simply removing people who are associated with Russia from your cabinet.

How would this have been handled if Hillary had won? She has ties with Russia through the Clinton Foundation....which makes her extreme sabre rattling even more disturbing.

I don't think this is as big of an issue as some hope it will be. Russia meddling in elections? You mean like how the US does everywhere, including Russia?

If there winds up being a genuine link, maybe it will teach the US to get its nose out of everyone elses shit.

So... Trump is rejecting daily intelligence briefings because they're boring, and says he's a smart guy and can figure it out. How about this, how about instead of forcing people to get a license to have a kid, how about anyone who voted for Trump should have their voter registration terminated so they can longer vote, and ban their offspring, and their offspring from voting, so we get as far away as possible from the ignorant influence of their family who knowingly voted for a man they knew was an unqualified and completely unstable douchebag for president. That's not even counting the fact he's a sleazy, lying, racist, greedy, shyster. They should wear their shame for three generations like a Scarlett letter so their descendants know how fucking stupid they're family members were to vote for a man who is completely inept at governance.

I'm perfectly fine with that as long as you do the same goddamn thing to everyone who voted for Obama.

At least the most idiotic Trump voter knew of a reason why they were voting for him. There were a ton of Obama voters who were asked to name one thing he was going to change and they couldn't name ONE thing....yet voted for him anyway.

Now THAT is truly a "fucking stupid" person right there who doesn't need to be anywhere near a voter registration card.

If we can spend the last 4 years on Benghazi and Hillarys emails...we sure as hell can do this for 4 years.

That stance right there is exactly what is wrong with this country. Has nothing to do with making things better....just pure partisan bickering and praying that nothing gets done so your side can get back in the drivers seat....and then your opposition does the same thing to you for that election cycle.

I hope I live long enough to see a real outsider come in and burn this to the ground and all the partisan hacks run screaming for mercy.

But the comments in that article about him making money as Secretary of State - have people forgotten all the pay for play Hillary got?

I certainly haven't....

Hyper partisanship on both sides led to the shut downs which were nothing more than political stunts.

Absolutely.

My ass. Where have we, in this thread, rooted for him to fail?

Right here....

If we can spend the last 4 years on Benghazi and Hillarys emails...we sure as hell can do this for 4 years.

Much more but that example was already in my list of quotes in this post.

Check this thread and you'll see me rooting and hoping for him to do the right thing

Yeah and then a ton of posts mocking him and those who voted for him.

I guess thats what passes for "moderate" these days....

I think that's Trump's appeal. He's a very simple speaker. When he's pressed on details he turns into a used car salesman. He's talented that way. When Bernie is pressed, he does state facts, even if diminishing the real price for his plans, he is honest that the economy will slow, taxes will go up, and unemployment wil rise. His thing is, just stick with him and it will all work out. Trump says he's going to create all this great stuff and it will be completely painless and won't cost anyone anything. Basically, he's a terrible, but very charismatic liar.

Agree to an extent but what I find funny about that is if you take the word Trump and replace it with Obama, its just as equally valid.

This is another one of those election cycles where we get to see all the hypocrisy at its finest.

It still begs the question...why does it matter way more to be charismatic than it does to be honest?

Because honesty has no place in politics. Voters like you ensure that will continue. You've admitted you want the next four years to achieve nothing and just keep the partisan attacks rolling for four straight years so why on earth would you even ask for honesty?!?

I love all the "the jobs aren't coming back" stuff. It always depends on which side is claiming it. When it was Obama preaching it, they were coming back! Now they are not. In four to eight years, the people saying they aren't coming back will all of a sudden have a change of heart.

I know its a complicated issue but its still funny to witness.

Where was all this talk for the last 8 years? It seems convenient for you to take this stance now.

Why do I have to accept Trump as being the only one who can 'get something done?'

More people blamed Repugs for the government shut downs.

Trump isn't here to help anyone but himself. Ugh...it's so transparent to me.

It also seems very strange to me that he and Putin were in bed together and not a single Trump supporter cares....

Sorry SLC. You don't get to remain silent when your party does something wrong, bitch loudly when the Republicans do something, and then claim "you don't know what I think because I selectively remain mum when it's my party."

That shit may work in a court room, but what you choose to pay lip service to is indicative of what you find important. Not a single post from you condemning Obama or Clinton, but countless against the GOP. You don't get to claim silent objectivity. No one is buying this cheap excuse.

I think the war on drugs has been a huge mistake. There's very little you're going to see me defend about Nixon.

That being said, heroin and opioid addiction kills more people annually than firearm fatalities, yet doesn't get nearly the attention gun deaths receive. Serious reform is needed to halt the over prescription of pain killers. Trump's border enforcement will also help end the influx of heroin, which almost exclusively enters the country via Mexico. The federal government considering pot on the same level as Heroin is truly stupid. I'm hoping Trump keeps Sessions from being stupid on this.

I can name several progressive policies rammed down our throats. The Dream Act for one. Admitting Transgendered people into the military (I couldn't send soldiers with sleep apnea to Iraq because I couldn't guarantee access to electricity for their machines 100% of the time. I couldn't deploy Soldiers who were on anti depression medication as it makes them unstable and access to medication isn't guaranteed. The hormones and treatment transgendered people need aren't going to be readily available in a war zone, so they're dead weight from the start). Removal of work requirements to receive welfare.

Stupid shit the GOP has done:

Voting repeatedly to appeal Obamacare knowing Obama would veto even if it miraculously made it through the Senate.

Refusing to budge at all and work with Obama, embarrassing Boehner and resulting in his resignation.

Obsession with abortion and planned parenthood. The crime rate drop in the early 90s coincidentally also aligns with Roe V Wade and the millions on adolescents who would have been born to poor single mothers. I don't think it was a coincidence.

The thirst for blood in Iraq and Afghanistan, but a complete 180 on any current threat.

This was bipartisan, but passing a law to let people sue Saudi Arabia for 9/11.

Their obsession with gay marriage and championing people like Kim Davis, meanwhile half of them are on their 2nd or 3rd wife with lots of intern action.

I don't think the dream act ever passed....Planned Parenthood is a great institution. If they could get rid of their stances on gay marriage and birth control....they would be much more appealing to me. Also, all that stupid shit about bathrooms....ugh....

I've never taken an opioid so I feel it difficult to comment on that...except to say that controlled substances are quite often uncontrolled.

I wonder....do we spend more on prisons in this country than we do on education?
