BLACK LABEL SOCIETY Bassist Launches CYCLE OF PAIN - Feb. 22, 2008
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY bassist John "JD" DeServio has signed with Reform Records for his project CYCLE OF PAIN.
Accompanying DeServio in CYCLE OF PAIN is vocalist/rhythm guitarist Gregg Locascio, lead guitarist Joe Taylor (who plays with Doro Pesch) and drummer Rich Monica. In fact, DeServio, Locascio and Taylor were in a band together when they were only 15 years old. "We grew up together," says DeServio. "It's family, just like BLS."
The reason behind CYCLE OF PAIN is simple, "The tunes were written to create some awesome music," explains DeServio. "This record is very diverse. Our influences range from BLACK SABBATH to JOHN COLTRANE, there's even a piano ballad with string arrangements on here. Zakk Wylde is going to do a guitar solo or two and Brian Tichy will be on a few songs as well. CYPRESS HILL is also doing a track with us."
Endorsed by Schecter Guitars and an alumni of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, DeServio's rock 'n' roll resume includes playing bass for LITA FORD when she opened for MÖTLEY CRÜE on the "Dr. Feelgood" tour. DeServio then joined UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore's band for their opening stint in front of RUSH on the "Roll the Bones" tour. Aligning himself with Zakk Wylde in PRIDE & GLORY, DeServio got to open for AEROSMITH. In addition to working with Richie Kotzen and Derek Sherinian amongst others, DeServio often holds bass clinics and teaches.
CYCLE OF PAIN's debut will be release late spring 2008.

Toe'n The Line is my favourite Zakk solo song. I'd love him to record some more stuff like that again.

Yeah me too man. Pride & Glory was great. Amazing album one of the best of the 90's I think. But I hope the next Black Label album is thought out and worked on for some killer tunes. The last offering wasn't up to par. I bleed black label but it didn't have that feel too it. They are on tour with Ozzy and Korn in the spring and there has been no word on any new material. Nick and JD are doing side projects.
Here's a funny interview with Zakk. Around 4:10 He mentions Axl and his time with guns.

hey how is that pride and glory album? how's it rate with sonic brew or mafia?
same with book of shadows? and which of the two is more of a "must have"
I've always described Pride and Glory as Black Sabbath meets Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's fantastic.
I really don't think you will ever find a better chill out album than Book of Shadows though. It just showcases some fantastic songwriting.
Like Pride&Glory said, it's kind of completely different animals, but I don't think you would be disappointed with either one.
-And by the way P&G, thanks for posting all the youtube vids. At least I think thanks, I sorta wanted to accomplish some things for the last hour or so, but I didn't. It was awesome though.
