Re: Guns N' Roses to headline Glastonbury 2017?

I've never been to Glastonbury but if Guns are headlining tickets could be easy enough to come by..

That or the hipster douchebags will still snap up tickets then just avoid guns' slot. Of course plenty of casuals would still go, but there'd be very very few hardcores or those sympathetic to guns.

I dunno tho. I don't know what the feeling is like towards guns from the festival going public. I'm sure they'd be able to do a couple of arena shows, maybe even pull off a couple of stadium gigs on their own bat. But would any of the festival crowds rally round guns as headliners? I don't see it myself.. Those festival crowds are so disparate & objecting to anyone outside their cliques/genres. You really need to be a ph neutral sorta band like Coldplay or Metallica. Guns' n Axl are still quite divisive for most festivals..

Fucking Merck. If not for him we would've got the 2006 tour with Buckethead, and things would've unfolded very differently indeed.

Merck was a collossal fuck up and made many mistakes. A big one IMO was how he got entrenched into the forums. A manager for a major rock band should NOT be doing such things. With Fernando/TB it is different obviously and is more understandable but Merck took the cake.

When a manager of that supposed caliber spends each day sending messages to madison, chineseblues, etc. instead of actually doing something, he needed to be put out to pasture immediately and this started long before that Tuesdays fiasco, 20+ songs better than IRS which isn't even on "the B list", etc.

How many times did Merck address the hardcore fan base or send messages to forum people who went around bragging about "contacts"?

How many GNR albums did Merck get released?

How many times did Azoff address the hardcore fan base or send messages to forum people who went around bragging about "contacts"?

GNR had some problems with Azoff obviously and Azoff is no saint but at least the guy knew his elbow from his asshole.

Uh huh. Just being facetious at Mirror.

I doubt Bucket would've held on for another two years. Maybe he could've gone away and come back on retainer, but there were many caveats. He wanted out.

As to why, look at Ron. As a person, he's outgoing as much as Bucket is insular. Ron worked hard on the gig (much of it under the Lebeis management) and the duress, last-minute scheduling and the general roughness that went into it still got the better of him. The lunacy of the gig is what happens when an AWOL Axl is running the show.

Things are likely a lot better now, with Slash and Duff back in the fold with their support teams. In comparison, a sensitive guy like Bucket has little chance to make it in the long run. All he needed to do was to skim around the msg boards to see what many 'fans' thought about him. Despite how shallow and immature the comments were, they would've bummed him out.

I bet all that hostility on the outside and the jerry-rigging on the inside just screamed Amityville Horror on him.

Yea I thought this too, but Glastonury is different still. You're up against 40/50 years of tradition there too. There's definitely a much more caustic, polemic atmosphere at Glastonbury. Or any of the British festivals.

But yea never should say never..

Glastonbury does like to "knock them down to build them up," though. They love saying shit like, "Hip-hop should never headline Glastonbury" and then wanking themselves into a stupor over how accepting they were when Jay-Z took to the stage. It was the same with Metallica, it'll be the same with GN'R; they love their redemptive storylines.

I just don't want GN'R's return to the UK to be an abbreviated festival set played out in front of a crowd of casual indie-cunts and flower children. Stadium tour or nothing!

Aye I get that, I just think guns n axl are a lot more divisive than those acts. There's a lot of love & respect for even the likes of Kanye that I don't see generated from the Glastonbury crowd.

Tho the goodwill engendered by Axl/DC may have changed opinions..? Plus people do love Slash..

If they do do Glastonbury I don't think it would be one of those exclusivity deals where they couldn't play other venues in the UK.
& if it were they could always do Slane over here as well..

Tbh I'm not convinced I want a stadium tour over here. It's different in the USA the way crowds are segregated & seated. Over here there's a fair chance you'll be miles from the stage..
