I think I'm going to dive into this again with the PS4 version (previously played through it on the PS3 a few years back).
Obviously I will not be playing it online, but would I have needed a PS Plus subscription anyway?

Yea you need a ps+ subscription to play gtao on ps4.
If you ever feel like it tho it's worth keeping an eye out on hduk etc for good prices/deals on ps+ subscriptions. If you shop around you can usually find them a fair few quid cheaper than doing it via psn.
