Re: "No more managers."
A recent article on the reunion had a few interesting points from "recent" managers, which may warrant some attention, particularly if read side-by-side with the 'No more managers' interview.
Doc McGhee (former KISS manager, announced on the job in Feb '10 by Axl, fired in around Feb '11.)
"[Axl] wanted to prove he could write," Mr. McGhee says, "and saw his Guns N’ Roses as a way to demonstrate his contributions to the original band."
McGhee was said to orchestrate a re-release of CD to go with a US tour, starting in early 2011. This was (apparently) thwarted by Irving Azoff, as his lawsuit with Axl was still in litigation. It would've been a good opportunity for Axl to come back in his rocking 2010 form and give the tour he was supposed to in 2002 and 2006.
Contrary to anyone’s claims there are no concrete plans nor were there ever for a tour, a relaunch or sponsors (n’ certainly not to replace anyone in the band) beyond a collection of random ideas thrown out by various individuals w/out any real foundation or negotiations in place other than our prior involvements (which wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to put together). And 4 the record Doc McGhee is no longer involved w/either myself or GN’R. - Axl, Feb '11
Instead, the deals fell apart and Axl went home, only to appear crestfallen and ludicrously out of shape in Rock in Rio 4 in October '11. A new manager was sought for this next tour cycle, which might've been a follow-up to the US tour concocted by McGhee.
Peter Katsis (former Ministry manager, let go in Dec '11).
A Guns N’ Roses reunion is “one of those things the audience was told they would never get,” says Peter Katsis, who briefly managed the breakaway band Mr. Rose has fronted in recent years.
Manager after manager popped the reunion question. In one 3 a.m. conversation while managing Mr. Rose on tour, Mr. Katsis recalls: “He told me he wasn’t opposed to doing it at some point, and that he had no real issues with Slash.” But he still wasn’t ready.
The constant [reunion] question is an albatross and leaves Rose not only tired but wary of anyone in the business looking to work with him. "All these managers, they all believe in one thing: sell a reunion tour and get their commission. It's just a phone call. It's a half a day's work, or however long they want to keep the bidding war going. They get their commission and they don't care if it falls on its face." LA Times, 12/2011
“Axl’s been carrying the torch,” [Katsis] says. “It’s a business negotiation between who’s been carrying the business, and who’s just coming back.”
Katsis left the fold after less than a month on the job. LA Times, 12/2011
Mr. Rose parted ways with Mr. Katsis in late 2011, leaving the handling of Guns N’ Roses to Beta Lebeis, Mr. Rose’s personal assistant and confidante, and her son, Fernando; they were aided by Mr. Rose’s business manager, booking agent and lawyer.
"Every manager comes in and wants me to make things smaller," says Rose. Guns N' Roses, for example, requires twice as many tour trucks as the budget calls for, he says. Why no one else can understand the band's needs is an obvious frustration for Rose. - LA Times, 12/2011
"We decided, 'No more managers,'" said Lebeis a few days after the Seattle concert. "Between me and Fernando and my daughter, we're dealing with the management." Lebeis added that she characterizes Rose as "more than a son to me," and that after Katsis' departure, "I told [Rose] if he hires another manager, I quit." LA Times, 12/2011

Yup. This is why I loved Evo.
Past tense? 
The main problem with Axl and managers seem to be their differing thoughts on the reality of the situation. Axl wants big promotion, support. Something his fame without Slash didn't warrant. And of course many of them wanted that reunion for the big commission. Only reason a big shot like Azoff bothered to get involved.
Finally things have reached equilibrium.

It still amazes me he was open to it at the time but "wasn't ready" yet. I'm surprised Katsis even went on record with that.
The past 5-6 years make little sense. If the Azoff thing doesn't happen it makes you wonder when the reunion would have really happened.

Yeah... there was a period when I checked this forum and it was like one big error message ghost town (?) and I gave up on it.
Maybe better ' this is what I missed about evo and glad it's back'.
