Re: Tools for Fools (RAR '06)
The album version should have been closer to this. All that synth BLOWS.

Funny that,
Pitman said he and Axl wrote a lot of songs initially on acoustic gtrs in his kitchen. There may be a version of Maddy in the vaults that's pretty much that thing.

Wasn't there a quote from Axl about how Madagascar came about when Pitman was fooling about with the sampled horns on his synth? If so, I doubt that it was ever envisioned as being played on anything else...
Re: Tools for Fools (RAR '06)
Pitman plays acoustic on If The World. Little bit of trivia too, Dizzy doesn't play keyboards on the album version of the track at all. He's not listed/credited. Pitman also plays the bass on If The World too and no Tommy listed either.

Good info! That is impressive. That is one of my favorites on that album!

Re: Tools for Fools (RAR '06)
The acoustic version is MUCH better, but the song really lacks a chorus. I'd agree with Monkey that the vocal melody in the verse is very good, but that's the only redeeming quality of the song to me. It doesn't build to anything, and those wails he does instead of where a good song would have it's chorus after the first verse are just plain annoying to listen to.
The stripped-down acoustic version also exposes how little there really is to the song. Again, add a chorus, and you can make this thing into a nice acoustic 3-minute song ala You Ain't The First.
