Re: 2016 Presidential Election Thread
You can find plenty of stories saying Clinton is going to walk away with it.
Donald Trump: Hillary Clinton's Doormat to the White House http://www.nationalreview.com/article/4 … hite-house
How Hillary Clinton Can Beat Donald Trump Without White Men http://www.ibtimes.com/tuesday-election … te-2337023
Clinton would trounce Trump with demographics and message https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ri … d-message/
Ignore the noise — Clinton will win in 2016 http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/p … in-in-2016
Of course, they all are just speculating. That's why elections are fun.
Re: 2016 Presidential Election Thread
Also, this is ludicrous: "Bernie Sanders can beat Donald Trump, possibly taking the House and Senate with him."
Gerrymandering has enabled the GOP to keep a firm grip on the House for many more years, maybe until the mid-2020s. There is NO WAY the GOP is losing the House. That's the biggest giveaway that that column is uninformed rubbish.
Re: 2016 Presidential Election Thread
Primary votes do not equate with general election votes. Major flaw with that story, besides more people have actually voted for Hillary in this primary cycle than Trump.
Really there's only a few 'swing states'. FL, OH, VA being the major ones. I just see FL as the only one Trump could possibly win, vs either Hillary or Bernie.
Also, to go with your comment, they need to factor in Independants. Realistically, when it comes to Trump or Hillary, I don't think there's any question either Hillary or Bernie wins probably 80% of independants. As they typically take a wait & see approach. I wouldn't see much of a contest there. Sure alot might not vote at all, but that works against them both so it's a wash.
Re: 2016 Presidential Election Thread
A good point I thought the piece made was that republicans are coming out in support for Trump in important states (and in large numbers), while Hillary mostly does good in irrelevant ones. It's hard to predict of course, but if it's anything winning this election for Trump, it is enthusiasm for him and lack of it for Hillary.
He may be able to adjust his act, become more amiable. Hillary is not going to increase her popularity whatever she does. She's barely holding it together as is, propped up by full establishment support. And even if Trump couldn't adjust, his attraction of irregular and non voters could be enough to offset any sit home protest on the republican side. He may even get some Bernie voters bent on sticking it to the establishment.
Re: 2016 Presidential Election Thread
Here's a good analysis of a huge Trump problem: not minorities or immigrants, but Republican women.

I can tell you that republican women in TN hate Trump. The big conspiracy theory floating among that circle is that they believe Trump's campaign is intentionally trying to sabotage the republican party and get Hillary elected. They really believe that.
The only person they liked was Rubio. The republican party is totally helpless. Its really been thirty years in the making. The embrace of the christian coalition in the eighties, the right wing conspiracy nuts in the 90s and then the tea party. They did it to themselves.

Trump won the women vote in 11 of the first 15 primaries. He has alpha male appeal.

I said this before, I think it started this way. It was all a ruse. Once he's campaign got rolling tho I think his ego kicked in & now he's in it to win it. Head to head against Hillary in the fall I think he'll be brutal on her & her past. He won't go lightweight against her. However yeah I do think it started off just to shake things up over there. Mostly, I think he wanted to ruin Jeb, which he did.
