I still don't think all the vocals are finished. I think bits n' pieces are finished. Raw demos exist. But a fully finished product. I don't believe that. I think that's the "99%" people speak of. Many times Tommy said even as recently as during the 2006 tour that the reason Chinese wasn't ready for release was because Axl's vocals weren't finished.
Now he could've recorded a thousand different versions and wanted to multi-track all of it. OR, and more likely, they simply just were done. They had test tracks or demos that were basically finished and waiting for some takes to be laid down, and Axl just never got it done.
In my humble opinion.
Beyond that, I think the rest is up in the air, UNLESS Axl did indeed finish Chinese II because he and his camp thought within the last couple years that its release was imminent.
Either way, with Slash & Duff being back in the band, we're back to the start to quote AIC. Everything is to start again. There is NO FUCKING WAY ANYTHING gets released out of the GN'R camp that doesn't feature re-arranging by Slash & Duff in order to promote the band. Even if Axl plans on releasing the Chinese leftovers as a "Echo of Miles", it'll be AFTER the 'comeback' album is released WITH Slash & Duff.

Some(or all) of the Beavan sessions were ready in 2001. Axl wanted it mixed, mastered, and released. Enter Ezrin, who listens and says its not even close to being finished. There had to be vocals on those tracks but maybe they weren't "up to snuff". I have issues with some of the vocals from CD(Maddy, The Blues) and they are from those sessions. The Blues IMO is bordering on scratch vocals and while I love Riad....he is the weak link there. Band is killing it but he doesn't nail it.
I think he went to a studio in 2007 to redo some vocals but after that.....who knows. Its 2016. Amazing that so much time was spent on these CD/nostalgia tours.
I'd still take another album even if he doesn't feel like recording again...or do like Cornell did with Black Rain...take a song from 1991 and just rerecord some of the vocals.

I agree.....but I expect at least a couple of those tracks to be released this year.

From a business standpoint, I wouldn't expect any new releases anytime soon. MAYBE they play a new song or two, but I don't expect a full album. Fact is, these shows are selling themselves right now with zero promotion from the band. If and when that demand dies down they may decide it's time to entice the public with new music. But the money is made through touring, and these shows are going to make them a lot of money. I'm purely basing this off of Axl only releasing one studio album this century. I hope I'm wrong, but keeping my expectations low. I just think if Slash were calling the shots things would be different. He'd be doing press, and they'd be working tirelessly on an album to coincide with a summer tour. Maybe Slash's sheer presence changes everything though and we have to forget how Axl has handled things in the CD era. That's our only hope.

The sums are giddying: the fee for Coachella has been widely reported at $7m per show, and a financial split of 50 per cent to Axl, 25 per cent each to Slash and Duff – although it remains speculative and unconfirmed – it must, along with the timing, have made for an enticing proposition.
If there was a time to do it for the money...

You are right that there is no need for an album, especially not soon. But they're still musicians with a need to create, and while not as important commercially as before, bands need albums to be relevant. A little praise from the music world wouldn't hurt either.
The article says Slash is already laying down tracks. That doesn't mean anything is happening next week, but evidently the intention to get out songs/an album is there.

If Slash is doing some work in the studio for Guns it wouldn't be some huge secret. Likely many people know or have heard about it, if it's happening.
Agreed. Don't see Axl doing much on this. I think he sees this as an opportunity to have Slash give his material that last edge that has eluded him for a decade or more. Or, having Slash on it is what the label needs to hear to give it the backing Axl wants.

I'm giving them a 'free pass' on a new album in 2016. This is the first year of the reunion and it'll be mostly touring with some sort of GH/Best of later in the year. Obviously our interest will be in the bonus content.
Now in 2017 that's when I'll be hoping for a new album or more vault releases.

Oh I agree. I think eventually they'll need to create new music, if that hasn't already happened. I just don't think the urgency is there right now since the interest level is already sky high. Maybe next year, like James said. Or whenever the demand reduces. Sort of the Van Halen model. They reunited with Dave and it was a hot ticket. However, interest died down for their second leg. And even though A Different Kind of Truth was well received, it didn't really raise the interest level all that much after it was released. Mind you, they did no promo or interviews surrounding the album or tour. That probably didn't help the cause.
