Source: http://www.billboard.com/charts/greates … 200-albums

These all-time rankings are based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 (from its launch on Aug. 4, 1958 through Oct. 10, 2015) and Billboard 200 (from Aug. 17, 1963 — when we combined our two leading pop album album charts for stereo and mono releases into one all-encompassing weekly chart — through Oct. 10, 2015). Titles are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at lower rungs earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted differently to account for chart turnover rates over various periods. Artists are ranked based on the combined point totals, as outlined above, of all their Hot 100 or Billboard 200 chart entries.

However they've promoted it as a greatest albums of all time list tongue.

I can usually find some redeeming qualities on these types of lists but this is the worst yet.  I think those who compiled the list are trolling. No way can anyone believe that nonsense. I also don't believe their reasoning behind it. Even if only taking the charts into consideration, no way in hell is Adele in the top spot.

You can see the slots where they're trying to be edgy or whatever like with the inclusion of Stevie Nick's Belladonna. Is that a good album? Definitely.  However, the only 'Best of' list it ever belongs on is the best Stevie Nicks albums. I did get a laugh out of seeing Hootie and the Blowfish ranked higher than Pink Floyd.

They put Miley Cyrus and Nickleback above Guns N' Roses/Metallica ect. in the artist rankings.

Never listened to Taylor Swift, but apparently most of her discography is better than everything the Beatles ever did...

They have a complicated way of justifying this, they say sales factor in as well with extra points awarded depending on the era. Which might explain some inclusions, but not others. Basically for example the Adele album gets extra points because the sales were fairly good by this era's standards. However Led Zeppelin IV which sold more than 37 million copies and is one of the biggest selling albums of all time has it's points voided apparently.

They also advertised this as a "Greatest list" and got publicity on other mainstream sites which are taking this seriously.

I don't get the fixation myself. I've heard a couple songs and I wasn't really impressed but I also know she isn't being marketed to my demographic. She is this generation's Madonna I suppose. When Madonna came out,  my grandpa wasn't into it and that's sort of how I view new music. I'm just too old to get into most of this stuff.

I cant get into new rock either and haven't for years.  I'm shocked that people would rank them as high or higher than music we listen to but to some people these bands are their GNR, Metallica, etc.

I guess there's a reason they had to do this. If they had been honest the whole list would be old ass bands. Few current artists (products) to shill for. I remember complaining about magazines and papers having too many ads. Now they're actually just ads.
