Re: Saw Third Eye Blind last night
At Iron City in Birmingham, AL. The place was SOLD OUT. For freaking Third Eye Blind. The people watching was amazing. The hipsters were out in full effect as well. The most annoying thing was every girl and their effing huge cell phone recording songs or taking selfies. Anyway back to the show. I saw Third Eye Blind one time ever at Beard Eaves Memorial (Auburn, AL) colosseum with Eve 6 opening up back in 1999 I think. Eve 6 was good but I thought TEB was pretty bad. Well last night, THEY WERE AWESOME. and the singer sang great. He is now 51 and from the front row really has not aged at all. The lead guitar player was pretty damn good... Had a nice tone and had some sweet solos with the wah. Pretty tight band. Anyway, the band was blown away by the crowd. The post grunge alternative movement was really, really big in Bham in the late 90's to early 2000's. Bands like TEB, Matchbox, Hootie, Train, Sister Hazel, Creed all were huge in Bham and typically before they were huge nation wide.
Anyway, good show...
Re: Saw Third Eye Blind last night
TEB. 1st 2 albums were ok in the post-grunge alternative kinda way. He always came off as a smack but he was a pretty decent songwriter/musician. I am surprised it was sold out as well.. With hipster & young chicks. I would've thought 30 & up.
Something I didn't know, Semi Charmed Life was a response to Lou Reeds 'Walk on the Wild Side'.. hence all the 'doo doo doo's'.

Sister Hazel was cool. Birmingham ate that kind of music up.
Guster
Fastball
Brother Cane
Bare Naked Ladies
Early Creed
Train
Matchbox
Hootie
Third Eye Blind
STP
Cowboy Mouth
Cracker
These bands were really huge in this market. I think this was Southern white kids being as edgy as they possibly could. Haha. We didn't have GNR anymore, so we got into this kind of music. Good times!

I'll always associate their one hit with women's gymnastics. I went to Arco arena to watch that and that song was played every few minutes the whole time.
