Re: GnREvolution Chinese Democracy Elimination 2015 - Round 8
Prostitute. Sorry will probably go this round, then Prostitute.
Who has been listening to the album lately? Since this started I have forced myself to listen to it every couple days. I mean literally forced. While I did warm up to a couple tracks, this album is not a pleasurable listening experience. A few days ago while listening to it I only made it to Better. Had to turn it off and put on Elastica.
I cant believe anybody thought it was a good idea to wrap this up in cellophane and put it on shelves. All the leaks are light years above this thing. We go from the leaks which weren't mixed properly to THIS? Where's the middle ground?
Only been listening because we have this elimination. And I agree this isn't really something I want to listen anytime in the near future. In this case, sometimes less is more. There's just too much going on in these songs and it overwhelms the listener.
Well that and theme wise a lot of songs cover the same issue/ground. Prostitute and TWAT go over the same idea.
Voting for Prostitute this time as I listened to this and just came away bored. There is really no "fire" in this song and I found it really mellow this time.
A few songs I found not as bad as I remembered (Street of Dreams for one) but I still liked the demos more.

CD is really a headphones album. A lot of stuff to pay attention to. In that sense it differs from previous GN'R albums where you can just put it on and let it rip.
Reminds me of the Mars Volta maybe. It can get very tiresome to listen to with all the different layers.
Re: GnREvolution Chinese Democracy Elimination 2015 - Round 8
The layers are just noise though.
I just listened to Better. I may vote for it next round. The album version is just god awful. No one should have been surprised when radio flushed it immediately. If I owned a radio station I wouldn't allow that to be played either. Listeners would change the channel. Slashsfro mentions liking SOD. Its ok I guess but these vocals don't even come close to resembling being finished. Dollars to donuts he sang this once or twice in 2000-01 and never went back to it. Same with Madagascar. Fro is right...the theme of the album runs in place. The listener quickly tires of hearing about Slash and Seymour. I bet Axl finally tired of it as well...
I haven't listened to Mars Volta in years but I don't remember my ears bleeding from it.

I don't buy that most of the album is about Slash. I get the Stephanie/Erin impression, but not sure which track apart from Sorry is supposed to be about Slash. Which he him himself denied.
I really think if you think if you remove Bumblefoot/Frank the tracks instantly go up alot better compared to the demos. There was no excuse for shoe-horning Bumblefoot onto the album, just to say he played on the album. Tommy should have been fucking furious, since it's the bass that gets screwed over.

I don't remember that song. Not a fan. I need to download their first couple albums. I know they had some good songs, just haven't heard any of it in 7 or 8 years.
The first album is the most accessible. Then with Frances and beyond they start to get more experimental. Bedlam in Goliath puts you to the test.
