Re: Radiohead offers fans chance to remix... sort of
So I see now that Radiohead, furthering their desire to be Trent Reznor, have offered their fans the chance to remix the song 'Nude' from In Rainbows. The only issue is that instead of the multitrakcs being given away for free, as NIN has done for all its songs since 2005, you have to pay a dollar for each track. You have to go to iTunes and buy, for a full dollar, the drum part. And then the bass part. Then the guitar. Then the vocals. Then the strings.
So it only cost 5 dollars to remix one song? This is too good to be true!! Actually, it is...
When submitted, you lose all rights to your remix. Radiohead could, in theory, release it without paying you or giving you any mention at all.
Any Radiohead fans want to justify this? It seems pathetic to me.

Re: Radiohead offers fans chance to remix... sort of
I'm not a fan of either band actually. But I don't think $5 is all that bad. Most bands won't allow fans access to stuff like the master tracks...so its nice of them to let you do it.
As for the rights perspective...well...what if they didn't - someone could release a song the band wrote but with just the parts in a slightly different order and make $$ off it? Wouldn't br right. This kind of releasing stuff should be just for the fans to have a bit of fun, not profit off the band.
So yeah...that's my 2c in defence of it
