A new album would be GNR's first release since 2008's long-awaited "Chinese Democracy"
Guns N' Roses fans might not have to wait another 15 years between new album releases.
GNR guitarist Richard Fortus told the Associated Press at the Revolver Golden God Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday (April 23) that the rock band is working on new material that could be released in the next year.
"We are working on stuff and hopefully very soon we're going to have new stuff out," Fortus said on the red carpet at the event. "Well, in the next year."
GNR's last new album arrived in November 2008 with the long-awaited "Chinese Democracy," which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Prior to that release, the band hadn't put out new music since the "The Spaghetti Incident?" in 1993.
GNR's DJ Ashba, who was standing next to Fortus on the carpet, added that the group's members have been recording ideas in their home studios and passing them around to each other.
"We're going to be in Vegas all together, so hopefully during that time we're going to be able to get in a room and start laying down some more stuff," Fortus said.
On May 21, GNR will begin a residency at the Joint inside Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The band recently toured through South America, where original GNR bassist Duff McKagan filled in for new bass player Tommy Stinson, who was busy performing with his band the Replacements.
GNR performed with McKagan at Wednesday's Golden Gods Awards, where frontman Axl Rose was given the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award.

Fortus says it every year. Nothing happens. Plans can change in Axl's world, and they do change all the time, but this is't even a plan, just some bullshit to the fans.

Fortus is looking rough in that pic.
Like has been said, hilarious, there's not even a plan. He's just hoping. You might as well ask one of us!

Richard has been full of empty words since 2002 and this is just the same spiel they give to reporters to give credence to their title as a member of Guns N Roses, its a lot of shite they talk but its not their fault. Must be pretty embarrassing to be a introduced as a member of Guns N'Roses and you havnt written a note for that band, so they have to kind of justify their place in this legendary band.

Dick knows... well dick.
DJ actually has probably had the most honest take on the writing process, barring those first few weeks when he was a bit too enthusiastic. Like he said above... in a nutshell they work on ideas, pass them around, and see what each other thinks. But in the end, if Axl doesn't approve or could care less, you can't really record albums without your lead singer.
I've wondered for quite awhile if the band, contractually, would be able to break off from Axl and go record their GN'R material with a different lead singer. With DJ's guitar and the old hard rock sensability of the rest of the band, plus Duff, without Axl, i'd be curious what this band would sound like if they ran off and got a modern era rock singer to perform their material, like M Shadows or Chester Bennington. Might kick ass...

That concept sounds promising. They deserve to put out something.

If I'm not mistaken, he owns everything they bring to him. Once he owns it, into the vault it goes never to be heard again.
