I completely agree. Been thinking about this for a while and it makes the most sense. I always thought that, in Axl's mind the triad of Axl, Slash & Duff was replaced by Axl, Finck & Tommy. Perhaps it is 96 in his mind all over again.

Once, in 2001 I travelled 2k miles to see them in Rio.

In 2010, they played in my neighborhood. Damn, was I excited back then! Chinese songs being rotated, setlists changing slightly from show to show, Axl singing well...

Now they're playing in my neighborhood again. Literally 5 miles from where I live. I was waiting the first shows of the tour to test the waters and I don't regret my decision of no spending one more buck on this nostalgia act.

I'd rather save the money to make something else.

I saw them in 2002 Toronto, and 2006 in New York City.  With no new album in sight I skipped out on seeing them when they came around again. They finally released CD without Robin Finck, so I declined to support the new new line up.

Even if they don't play new material, whats wrong with mixing up the set with lesser played Guns tunes?

Just shows, as usual, that Axl is lazy

There's nothing wrong with mixing it up, but Axl doesn't want to. And it's always said they play what the band wants, but it's clear they're following his lead... They want to play new songs as stated in public numerous times. Where is it?

Axl just doesn't have the passion to do new stuff anymore. The "fire" seems to have left with Robin. I just don't think it's a coincidence that things changed when he left.

Thank God The Replacements are coming to Atlanta in May....a real rock concert....no pyro bullshit, just great songs and you don't know what the hell they are going to do.

All he needs to do is get him back. I mean Robin joined him on stage a year or two ago right? I would think though Mr. Finck would need some reassurances that shit would get released or then why bother. He has such a phenomenal gig with NIN right now. Why be in a band that isn't releasing new material?

I saw the Replacements last year their second show being Riot Festival in Toronto. Man were they good. Josh Freese killed it. Highlight of my night. I have seen him with Devo in my home town, and man can that cat play.

Good to see GNR back on a stage again. That is a mammoth set list. Absolutely huge. Axl is looking in very good shape physically hasn't looked that well since 06. Between the new tour the rumblings about a 2014 release for a new album, the release of the Concert Movie and Axl's long overdue Golden Gods award things are looking great for GNR fans.

...I'm not sure if that's ^^ sarcasm or not, but it made me laugh.

I see this as the last leg of this particular lineup. If nothing is released by the "2015" (and even if it is) time that was mentioned, DJ will be gone and so will Ron. The former will be doing projects on his own, making a lot more money and will have a new band. The latter will just be fed up & burnt out. He'll have made his bread and will retire from serious touring for health reasons. He will give a heartfelt "Thank You to the fans" letter through multiple channels and will be very gracious, even in his blunt honesty. DJ will announce his leaving through a blurb on his Twitter with the hashtags #RocknRoll! #MonsterEnergy #GNR.

And I'm actually being serious.

Sadly what you describe misterID I think is a very distinct possibility.

I would also add the hashtag #ashbaswag to it though.

I honestly don't know why anyone would leave the band. It's a great paying side gig - show up to South America every 3 years, play a month in Vegas, couple Euro shows and the rest of the time is yours!

Ron would/will leave, imo, because I don't think his body can hold out much longer and it seems, going by the past few years/tours, that it's also becoming a mental toll on him as well. Pain management is tough to deal with and that's playing a big part in his life right now. And the last bit of news from Ron shows that his frustration is about finished, telling Beta/Fernando that he's no longer going to be dropping his own touring schedule at the drop of a hat for them, and demanding, in public, that they get more organized. His last statement basically said he's willing to walk away if things don't change. Tbh, I've got the feeling that it's just a matter of time for a while now. I'm not sure about his financial situation and medical insurance status, but touring the way he did after his accident, that was way more serious than any of us knew, and is actually pretty scary, gives me the impression that he had to tour... And even the MSL thing, I really believe that Axl called him annoying about talking down the "old material" that Robin and Bucket recorded, and there is a sort of... he's stuck with Bumble right now. I don't think it's a healthy or productive relationship, in a band compacity anyway, that will not produce anything significant. I think the band serves a purpose right now for Axl and that's touring to pay the bills, which really, that's what touring is for.

DJ doesn't need the gig. He seems to like to work. He likes recording music. He's made it clear he didn't join GN'R to be a touring musician, he wanted to record (business-wise, you can see he knows his shit and wants the royalties) and I'm sure at some point another opportunity will present itself and he's not going to devote time into a touring salary anymore. He doesn't have to.

I still believe the new material will be released, but I'm not sure this current line up will be around to tour it.

Get rid of Ron and DJ. There's always something with that Thal guy, and his playing doesn't really impress. DJ feels like a poser.

Bring back Finck, have BH parts as playback. Release a couple of albums, one of which should be close to finished, then continue the nostalgia only this time with some credibility.
