Re: Poll: Best Metallica Album '83-'91 Era
And I'm listening to Hetfield's yeahs all the way through right now. Brilliant.
It is man! Quite a trip.

Puppets, it's a classic. Justice is definitely 2nd though.
As for the Black Album, well "Holier than thou" and "Don't tread on me" take it away from being a masterpiece for me.

Re: Poll: Best Metallica Album '83-'91 Era
Are there any good Metallica best of albums?
You mean like an ICON or Greatest Hits collection? If you mean that, I don't believe so. The closest you'll probably get is the soundtrack to Through the Never; but they are live tracks with some re-recorded bits for the concert film that came out a few months ago. I think eventually Metallica will do a GH CD. I know Megadeth has a couple hits collective CDs. It's strange that Metallica doesn't have one by now especially since they've taken forever on a new album.

Re: Poll: Best Metallica Album '83-'91 Era
I put together my own Best Of Metallica compilation of two CDs, back in the late 1990's for one of my friends, who wanted to see what Metallica was all about.
So I featured mostly the big hits and more popular live songs from the early days.
Picking 3 tracks from every album, aside from the Black album, which I included 5 (only because all of those songs are great)
Yeah, there are some cover songs included, but Metallica covers are a big part of who they are, and more often than not, I prefer Metallica's covers over the originals.
And this is what I came up with, and I think it's a pretty damn good mix of Metallica's catalog for someone unfamiliar with their work.
CD 1 80's
Hit The Lights
Whiplash
Seek & Destroy
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Fade To Black
Creeping Death
Battery
Master of Puppets
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Last Caress/Green Hell
Blackened
One
Harvester Of Sorrow
CD 2 90's
Enter Sandman
Sad But True
The Unforgiven
Wherever I May Roam
Nothing Else Matters
Until It Sleeps
King Nothing
Hero Of The Day
Fuel
The Memory Remains
The Unforgiven II
Turn The Page
Die Die My Darling
Whiskey In The Jar

I really love Metallica's cover of Damage Case from Garage, Inc. I would put it up on that list too; but overall your picks would make an excellent hits collection.
