The National Football League season is starting next week, so thoughts are naturally turning towards the halftime show at the Super Bowl next February. With the game set to take place at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, some local concert promoters are hoping the NFL will highlight the rich musical history from the area, with an emphasis on the Garden State.
“It’s the 350th anniversary of New Jersey and it’s in Jersey,” Adam Philipson, the CEO of Red Bank’s Count Basie Theatre, told the Star-Ledger. “So can you get any more Jersey that our own version of the Three Tenors — [Bruce] Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Southside [Johnny]?”
John Scher, another New Jersey promoter, suggests looking beyond New Jersey towards Long Island. “I’d love to see Billy Joel,” he said. “Even more than Bruce, he’s a working class hero. And at the Sandy Benefit, he stole the show…His shows are infrequent, and that’s a real advantage. It makes it that much more special.”
However, one problem with these dream scenarios is that the NFL has rarely taken the game’s location into consideration when choosing the entertainment for its championship game. The NFL will announce its decision at an undetermined date this fall, but you can weigh in on the issue in our poll below.

Would be really cool if the NFL showed some balls and got Gaslight Anthem to play. Bon Jovi would be a great way to close it. Have Bruce open it and then in the middle have Bruce join Gaslight Anthem for The '59 Sound. All three artists are from Jersey.

It would be interesting if they were to go more of a "unknown" sort of route with it, with a big sound... but they can't sell that.
A Springsteen, Joel, Jovi medley show might be an interesting option. They also might would go with "Billy Joel and Friends" concept.

You would not need to sell it. Bruce and Bon Jovi are all they need to sell it then have Gaslight Anthem join in and have Bruce introduce them. It would be fantastic. Give a great unknown AMERICAN band the opportunity of a lifetime, show America that rock isn't dead and that trashy pop stars are not where it's at. Plus they're hometown boys and many in the crowd would know who they are. When Madonna performed they had MIA and Nikki Minaj(I believe) with her and MIA was not at all a part of the promotion for that. The Super Bowl Halftime show has become a geriatric act. The Boss is great and so is Bon Jovi BUT get some new blood in there. Gaslight would be perfect IF they did the whole New Jersey theme. If they don't go with the geographic theme I believe the next obvious choice at this stage should be the Foo Fighters. American, hard/pop rock, great performers, suited for football. What more could you ask for....... The Cure maybe? Just kidding.

They won't go near Robin Thicke after the VMA's. Justin Timberlake would be legit if he did a medley of all his hits and if the NFL is over Nipplegate. He's a pretty awesome performer truth be told.

It's going to be Bruno Mars. Kinda outta left field. He's a big name but didn't really think he was a big enough name to be THE performer. This is pretty kickass though. I'm interested to see how he does. I'm going lean towards it being pretty good as he's a real performer. I just don't know any of his songs besides this one so......
