Re: Joan Jett says Runaways reunion is pointless
Joan Jett has told L.A. Weekly she can’t see the point in a Runaways reunion. She thinks there would be more bad than good were it to take place.
Lita Ford reported in 2012 that she, Jett and Cherie Currie had settled the differences resulting from their 1980 split, that she had dined with both her former bandmates. The topic of getting back together was raised.
But, at the time, Ford added: “I don’t know how Joan feels about it. I couldn’t get a solid answer from her. If she decides she wants to put together the Runaways again, I’d be in 100 per cent.”
Now, Jett now tells L.A. Weekly, “I don’t really get why we should do it – the down side is bigger than the up side. It would be fun for people to see, but you’ve got to remember we’re not who we were in 1976. It’s not worth it to me. We had a great band that kicked ass for three and a half years. I’m very protective of it because it was very special to me.
“To come back and have the press judge us… Plus, you can’t gauge the dynamics of the band. I’m just not sure it would be the reunion the fans are looking for.”
Jett releases her new Blackhearts album Unvarnished in October 1. She says, “It’s some of the better writing I’ve done in a long time.”

Re: Joan Jett says Runaways reunion is pointless
While I'm happy and looking forward to the new album. Especially since one of my friends is a huge Joan Jett fan. As for the reunion, it doesn't really matter that much. Joan is way more successful as a solo artist with the Blackhearts then when she was in the Runaways. She has the freedom to write her own songs, tour reasonably, and other things without it affecting her personal life or blowing things out of proportion. She can record anything now with no pressure. Not a bad music life now. It seems the Runaways breakup both Cherie splitting in '77 and then calling it quits in '80 means there was way more business problems within the band and it's camps. I mean I would love for Joan, Cherie, and Lita to perform; but they don't need to do a reunion tour for that. They can just hop on stage and play. No name, No worries. Plus..I think drummer Sandy West's passing is a major factor. Joan and Lita always referred to her as the spirit of the band. Maybe Joan doesn't feel right when it's not the full original band. Joan and Cherie get along fantastic I hear; but when recording new music and committing to big plans way in advance is hard for alot of artists. You have to give up something.
Hell I've listened to Lita's new album months ago and I thought it was fucking great. Some of her best work in years and she still looks fantastic and seems humble. So if she wants to play with Joan and both are open why not. They can do their own thing if it's more comfortable and they don't need the money or press. They don't need to reboot the Runaways for that. Personally The Runaways got a big boost in popularity again by alot of their songs being used for movie soundtracks, the Runaways movie (which was pretty good to an extent even though I think it portrays certain artists cough cough Lita in the worst light), and other things. Plus I know I would have a blast seeing either of them live.

The only song I know from these ladies is "I love rock n roll" by Joan, great song, so I'm not a big enough fan to be disappointed. (Really just posted it because I knew you were a fan, amigo)
I've been meaning to check them out for a while though, just never got around to it. I haven't gotten around to watching the movie yet either, though the trailer looked awesome when it came out a few years back.
I'm sure I'll get to it eventually though, because it comes to mind often enough, mostly because of this album cover:

Oh thanks! Appreciate it. Always happy to respond to news about these ladies. Some songs I recommend from solo Joan are the following. Bad Reputation, I Hate Myself for Loving You, Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah!), the covers of Roadrunner and Crimson & Clover. She does a cool Dirty Deeds cover and a variety of other material out there. I have her Greatest Hits that I got really cheap. They basically almost her whole solo and Runaways discography. She does the Runaway covers with the Blackhearts; but still kick ass. Of course Spotify helps too.
As for the Runaways themselves, while there albums aren't particularly revolutionary or mind blowing they do have some great rockers and songs on them. The ones I recommend if you are curious, Some of their debut due to Cherry Bomb and a few other hits. Queens of Noise is their best with the most solid line up. I Love Playing with Fire, Hollywood, and many others. And..their last one with Joan, Lita, Sandy, and a few others. Their cover of Mama Weer All Crazee Now and the Quiet Riot version years later are hard to choose because they both have their own style at kicking ass and sounding great. Love both!
As for the movie, it's pretty good. Just has some pacing problems and I hear certain facts about the Runaways are not too accurate. It's based off a book. But..it's one of the few movies you'll see of Kristen Stewart actually not sleep walking and giving a shit about her role. ;) Hope this helps and enjoy!

Lol, not a fan of Kristen Stewart either, probably why I haven't made more of an effort to watch it. I used to go out with a chick that not only looked like her but had a similar personality. I was so fed up with that personality, or lack there of, after 3 years in a relationship with her, that now it's hard to sit through 2 hours of K-Stew's acting. And yet I've had to, because my wife is a twilight fan. Smh.

Oh yeah I'm not a fan either. I just thought she actually portrayed Joan pretty accurate in the early days during the movie. That's about it from what I what I liked about her as an actress. Yeah...Twilight is a painful experience from what I've seen. Awful film making. Damn dude I feel for ya. I hope your wife allows you to blast some tunes while she is watching the stuff. It will help clear your mind.
