The quote that will stick out for everyone "Just like Guns, we dont care, we will go out and play songs people know. We are not knocking ourselves out to release  music. There's no need too now. It's not the time or place.

I always figured this would be the long term effect of piracy...basically if you're an established act there's no real need or motivation to make a new album...might as well just tour the hits till retirement.

Yeah, but that completely goes against being a creative artist.
If you're a true artist, you don't make new music for money as your goal, you do it because you're creative.

So many other artists are releasing new music without financial motives, it's sad to see GN'R making every excuse under the sun as to why they can't.... 17

Yeah i hear that...but another thing I think isn't discussed enough is "How many albums are in people?, How Many Novels?" some people like Steven King, like Slash, seem to be able to just keep making new stuff forever....but I'd believe it's not like that for everyone....especially if their creativity is channeled through life events.

Like Axl wrote songs about life on the street, then on the road in band, then love and breakups....maybe there's just a limit to his inspiration? MAybe all this remix stuff is because he enjoys making new stuff but just isn't getting the "holy shit" moments he used to.

Steven King can make a hundred million on one of his books. Being a popular writer is probably among the best paid professions in the world. That's plenty motivation to keep going.

And Slash has a wife named Perla...

That's just "making stuff" though, creativity goes out the window the same time the hunger dies. For most people this is brought on by age and financial security, to keep going you need to love the music itself. Few artists really do this. Prince, Dylan and I'd say Axl. One of them just doesn't like to release it very often.

But Pitman still rules 9

Yeah.

If we were to trace this all the way back, it comes down to capitalism.

Fuck yeah he does! MOTHER GOOOSEE!! 5 As for the interview it's like everything that comes down to the current music industry is money. Damn shame; but the man makes sense. I know they have plenty of stuff recorded for an album and with the recent leaks, I can't really blame the band except Axl and poor management. Even though I think the whole internet ruining the distribution of music and profit for artists not completely accurate. They have a ton of down sides and yeah touring now is what makes most of the money; but it isn't crushing costs either.

I am willing to bet that is Axl's message to the band and Pitman is just recycling the boss' credo.
Its another excuse to do nothing new.
If the tunes were good enough, you'd think Axl would sing over them and release them, like all other artists in the world currently do.
Sure the business model is fucked but that does not stop the rest of the industry trying to get on with things.

It was always put out that Axl was a true artist and would go broke for his beliefs...apparently not.
