Re: Feigning Relevance - Axl on a Never-Ending Tour

The model I would think should be Aerosmith or Ac/Dc....like GNR both have essentially been performing a hits setlist with predictable modifications for the last several tours. Both also have GNR style timelines in that it's 10 years between drinks it seems.

It's worth mentioning I'm not saying that negatively, those are two of the greatest live bands I've ever seen.

There are two differences.

1. Those bands reconnect with their fan base by releasing a new record every decade or so. They play 2 songs from it live, then the hits, but it reinvigorates the fan base.

2. Those bands are mostly the classic line up. (Ac/Dc is a mild exception - the classic line up is impossible due to death but the replacement has been in the band for 9 Albums some of which are their best selling).

Until the recent Black Sabbath reunion - I think the artist Axl could look up to as a role model was Ozzy.

After Sabbath he developed a strong solo following, did some of his best works, and in teaming with Randy then Zakk established a catalogue that rivals his original achievements and honours his talent.

But again...Ozzy put out 11 albums in the 30 years he was gone from Sabbath.

It's 20 years since GNR put out The Spaghetti Incident (which although not the original line up is close enough for the public) and in that time Axl put out 15 songs.

On one hand I respect that maybe not all creativity runs to an artificial imposed business schedule, on the other hand, back in the 80s and early 90s Axl was previously very creative and able to accomplish his goals, and it seems that since that time he has been under some kind of unknown paralysis that drastically inhibits the band's ability to achieve.

I can only assume there must be issues at a human level that have caused this, in which case it's very sad, but business wise, amongst the fan base it's a dirty phrase to ask for a new album, but, when looking at Axl's peers, all time genre classic artists,  like Ozzy, like Ac/Dc, like aerosmith,  you can't get past the sheer inactivity as the only reason he is not regarded as the absolute best front man of all time.
