Re: Top 10 Rock Frontmen

Rock singers have one of the hardest jobs in the whole music business. Unlike metal frontmen who can get by with a single solid roar, rock frontmen have to sweep across a stunning vocal range while spanning the stage with their crowd-pleasing antics.

Beyond that, they've got to have the charisma to keep the crowd engaged and excited between songs. And when you're stood in front of 100,000 people, it's no mean feat.

This week we asked UG readers to nominate and vote for their favourite rock frontmen and women ever. After hundreds of nominations and thousands of votes, the results are in - but who made it to the top 10?

1. Freddie Mercury (Queen)
2. Jim Morrisson (The Doors)
3. Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)
4. Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)
5. Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
6. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
7. Bon Scott (AC/DC)
8. Geddy Lee (Rush)
9. Chris Cornell (Soundgarden)
10. Axl Rose (Guns N' Roses)
Axl is better known for his voice than his time keeping, but he's rocking on as Guns N' Roses frontman, three decades after the band was formed. Let's hope his next album doesn't take as long as "Chinese Democracy."

Grohl, Cobain, Vedder, Lee have no business on that list.

Dave Grohl commanded a football stadium of Aussies in the palm of his hand, when I saw the Foos on their last tour here. He has every right to be on that list.

Very flawed list.To me it goes like this :

1. Axl Rose ( Freddie, Percy, Bon, Jimbo and Chris had nothing on him from 85 to 93 )
2. Freddie Mercury
3. Jim Morrison
4. Robert Plant
5. Chris Cornell
6.Bon Scott
7.Eddie Vedder
8. Kurt Cobain
9. Dave Grohl ( King of Generic Rock )
10. Geddy Lee ( if he can be considered frontman. He sounds a constipated chipmunk ).

Not ahead of his idol Plant. And Geddy Lee ahead of Axl is hilarious. That sure as shit wouldn't have happened 15 years ago. Axl should have stayed in his mansion like Howard Hughes and he would have kept his legacy the way it was in his prime.

I don't think Grohl has captivated nearly enough audiences to be considered one of the top 10 greatest frontmen in the history of music

As for Cobaim, you're going to find him on any top list of singers/ frontmen because he died in his prime, think of the accolades Axl and Slash would be recieving if they died during the Illusions tour...they'd be legendary

The fact that guys like Geddy Lee and Kurt Cobain are higher than Axl is preposterous, but lists always seem to be skewed
