The 2009 mention was not an accident. Up to the end of the first leg of the tour (including the cancelled drama with Van Halen and the Azzoff fallout) there was a great deal of INTENTION on putting out what we know as CDII.

^ That's true.

I just ment if Axl was going to put it out in say mid 2009...he's only 4 years behind schedule...which doesn't surprise me all that much!

The question is, does it not happening yet mean he no longer intends for it ever to happen, or does it just mean he's running late?

I dunno...but I'd guess late.

I agree here. Ron is just about the only one who tells it straight. Shame. This band has potential.

After hearing some of Ron's monthly songs from awhile back, I realize that if most of them had some better production, Axl's vocals, and a little help from Fortus, Pitman and Tommy then it could be a full GNR tune. Ron has some good simple ideas instead of giving the full band and label pressure to get a new 10-14 track album done. Especially hearing Ron's cover of Yellow brick Road...I mean come on Axl you play most of that song to introduce Nov. Rain all the fucking time. It wouldn't have him take that long to do the vocals since he knows it by heart and of course the piano parts. Alot of us really want for Axl and management to release the session work of the CD sessions in a box set if nothing continues to happen recording wise.

But really I think Ron has only said they're not writing together as a group, and they're not getting together and working on an album etc.

That doesn't preclude an album being made out of the leftover songs from the CD sessions.

While Axl has said there's not as much vault as Baz says, many sources including Axl have indicated there is some vault. It may be they are not meeting as a band to write and record a new album because Axl's plan has always been to release CD2 out of the other songs next.

Keep in mind Ron has said when he recorded CD he also did takes on a number of songs that were not released on CD afterall.

So basically the next album could be mostly in the can other than adding DJ / Axl doing his tinkering with production.

So for the next album to drop, at this stage I don't think Richard, Bumble and so on need to be in a room writing stuff - their part has already been done for at least 1 more album. Sure we'd all like to see a CD3 written by the current line up and recorded by them but that could be like a CD3 or even a CD4 depending how much bucket-era stuff remains.

I think Ron is vocal on this because as a musican he wants to be creative and he wants to be contributing and so on.

And I think he's telling the truth of course, but I also don't see that what he says means there's never going to be a CD2 - to me it suggests CD2 will be vault tracks - Atlas Shrugged, Jackie Chan, Silkworms etc etc

That would be reasonable if we had ANY indication of things moving forward. I won't say anything else on the matter but bear in mind this: If there's a vault and Ron already worked on it and it was in somewhat deliverable format and they *never* recorded anything else after 2007, how is there an album on the horizon?

I repeat: after FEBRUARY 2007 they NEVER recorded ANYTHING together.

Fair call man.

I wouldn't say "on the horizon" as in soon, but I'm also not sure about never.

If I think about the CD1 album experience:

My understanding is most of the recording for that was done between 99-2002 then there was like 4+ years of nothing - the bumble did some recording around 2006-7...then it came out like 2008.

So it's kinda like the album is nearly done, then it just gets boxed for half a decade....

So on the same logic, I figure if there were sorta done songs in 2007...at some point Ashba just needs to add a few licks and we might see the same thing happen.

Someone unboxes that stuff again and adds some shit. We also know he has a home studio and sends song ideas to axl sometimes - so it's possible that process even includes his take on the old stuff...(or not...just guessing).

Still...i admit it sure doesn't seem imminent...as it doesn't seem the band is attempting to do anything but tour.

But I just think in theory, if they wanted to, they could dig out those protools sessions or whatever and start the ball rolling within like a year. But it's curious that it never seems to happen.

Re: U2 Producer tells Axl story

What was the old chestnut from Jan 06? 32 songs and 26 are nearly done. I think the core of the 99-02 sessions compile those 32 songs. We have 13 of them now. Depending on how much tinkering is 'required' there could be another albums worth of material literally sat ready to go. I don't see us ever getting a new album from the current lineup, simply because I don't think Axl has the desire or drive to get back in the studio and start from scratch again. He's sat on nearly 20 new songs as far as most people are concerned, the fact that their origins are from 3 lineups ago doesn't seem to bother him. Why jump back in the studio when the last time was such a confidence sapping, draining, possibly emotional and time consuming process?
