Excellent post Apex with much food for thought. I think you're theory makes more and morse sense when you pull in all factors.
No rages, no rants, Axl looking hurt rather than angry when things fuck up,  the flubbed lines, the weight gain and dialled in gigs, the lack of creativity, the apparent lack of connectivity to how decisions are made....
It's all there.
Prozac?
Vicodin for the leg?

Medication would explain the weight gain.

There are still occasional rages though, there was the airport incident the other year, and there was some other footage around of an angry axl storming away from a car. He looked WAY pissed off in that clip. Also often on stage when things do fuck up I get the impression he's just got better self control than he used to - like he'll make a comment about it then move on rather than letting it overwhelm him. I dunno...i'll grant he's more chilled these days live...less of the danger vibe...but it could be meds or it might me maybe he's learning to master his demons a little better...

But then one of the curious things about Axl has always been how he seems to have a wide range of emotion. For example in the 2001 NBA interview he did he seems throughly chilled. He's like some sweet happy friendly guy. Doesn't seem like a person who would ever even front a band. I think it's a mistake to think he's really always either of those people, they're both part of him like jeckle and hyde almost!

I don't recall ever seeing this, could you find that clip and post it on here??

Sure.

However...I'd like to add that Axl's anger here seems justified...the guy must put up with a ton of harassment from fans and lots of stalker types don't appreciate respectful and common sense boundaries....so i'm not posting this to complain about Axl.

Just saying...if the speculation is he's medicated into lala-land so that he's always happy go lucky and non-creative now...in this video you see a glimpse of the kind of Anger axl used to have a lot. Here he moves on out of the way...however I can't help but wonder if this had been a cop or someone who would have forced him into a back against the wall kinda situation if he wouldn't have gone vintage beatdown on him...you can sort of feel the repressed rage in his tone.

So lemme get this video straight, some guy opened up the car Axl was in and Axl flipped out? I don't blame Axl on that one, there's a thing called personal space that should have been respected, those damn Latin fans are crazy though!

Monkeychow: I like how whenever you post something that shines Axl in a negative light, you're quick to go to Axl's defense or say something kind about him. It's like Axl is watching your every post 14

It's because I think he's misunderstood in the sense that our society paints things in binary logic.

Like to most people - he's either all positive and a god (HTGTH) or he's a dickhead and an asshole (half the media etc).

It frustrates me because I feel people dwell on one or the other.

I think Axl's an amazing guy, he got famous out of nothing, has incredible talent in singing/frontmanship/songwriting and so on, but at the same time I think he's also been involved in some regrettable things (certain violent encounters etc) and so on.

He's not a saint or the devil to me, he's just a guy with a lot of abilites and a lot of flaws to go with that...just like a lot of humans...although with him it's like everything is set to 10 - so it's more obvious when he goes in either direction. Anyway I try to be somewhat balanced in that sense...as while I don't want to get like HGTH and use blind praise regardless of the outcomes....I think it's easy to pick faults in the guy and be harsh to him without considering what he's given the world too.

I get what you're saying and I 100% agree with you. Please don't take my previous comment as an insult, I like your full perspective view on Axl and wished the rest of the world would see Axl in the same light you do.

The reason I loved this forum more than any other forum out there, be it GN'R related or not, was that everyone had their own perspective, and that we could have intelligent conversations about Guns N' Roses.

I give a lot of crap to Axl, but that's only because I care so much about this band. I devote a lot of my free time following this band, and it kills to have that "what could have been" feeling. I think Axl is one the greatest musicians in the history of music. Period. But I'm also intelligent enough that I can have negative opinions on Axl, and not be like a lot of guys at HTGTH where everything Axl does is perfect

Even though there's a lot of negativity on this forum, it's because we CARE about this band so much, we're negative because we can see the Potential this band had/has to be one of the greatest artists in the history of music.
