The Easter Bunny at Lakeline Mall was arrested after a child taking a picture with him ended up in the hospital.

'It's a photo-op. It's a nice family thing to do take your picture with the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus,' said Sgt. Brian Loyd of the APD Child Abuse Unit.

Witnesses told police that the employee, who was not immediately identified, decided to quit and wanted to leave. At the time a nine-month old child was on his lap posing for a picture.

'Stories are conflicting about what happened to the child, but the child ended up injured in the process of him placing the child on the ground,' said Sgt. Loyd. 'There's nothing, there's no way to warn a parent because you don't know. When you take your kid and put him in the possession of a stranger you don't know what can happen. Anything can happen at that point, even if you're standing there,'

The child suffered a contusion on the forehead and was taken to the hospital.

The employee was arrested and taken to the Williamson County Jail. Lakeline Mall officials said they are cooperating with law enforcement and sent out this statement:

"We were dismayed at the events of this afternoon at the Easter photo set. Our thoughts are with the child involved and his family."

The employee was released Friday evening and not charged, but detectives are still investigating what happened. He could be charged with injury to a child, a second degree felony, with a penalty of two-to-twenty years in prison.  The child has been released from the hospital.

Silly rabbit... Playing trix on kids.

Off topic a little, but how the hell did we go from the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus to fluffy bunnies and chocolate eggs?

I've always wondered that myself. Its definitely a strange detour. Even more crazy than Santa.

However, I'll take a Cadbury Egg over a crucifixion any day of the week....

No disrespect intended to Christians....but its because Easter is NOT actually about the christian crucifixion.

Christianity borrowed heavily from the old pagan festivals.

This time of year the pagans celebrated the Spring Equniox. The Saxons had a female goddess of fertility named Eastre or Eostre (Oestre in Latin) and held spring festivals in her honour. Hares and rabbits were considered sacred to Eastre because they are notoriously fertile animals.

Like with Chritmas, the christians set up their own festivals to co-incide with times when the pagen masses were already partying...but some of the pagan symbolism and traditions have lived on.

let's not get into stuff like that because there's too much to talk about. just one example: christmas celebrates the day jesus was born; the christian calendar has it's start when jesus was born; so, why don't we celebrate the birth of jesus on the 1st of january like i think it would be logic? and christmas was celebrated even before jesus so...

anyway, back to the arrested bunny. i have only one problem: why would you leave your 9 months old child in a strangers hands at the mall? hmm i don't care if he's dressed as the easter bunny or not, organised event or not. if you want a picture with your 9 months child in the arms of a person dressed as the easter bunny rent an easter bunny suit  17

jesus ended up being born just near the winter solstice and was resurected at spring solstice?

they were fabricated times to get pagans to convert to christianity...jesus' birthday wasnt really dec 25th and rumor has it that the deciples moved his body to a secret proper burial place as soon as the opportunity arose

same with St Patrick...did he really lead the snakes and rats out of ireland? or are the snakes and rats actually the pagan gods..things that make ya go hmmmmm

Yeah, Christianity is basically astrology with a new wrapping. And of course, a lot of pagan stuff from conquered territory.

I've always wondered why people don't react to Easter falling on different days each year if we're supposedly remembering a specific death.

The calendar that was in use 2000 years ago was flawed, that's why Easter falls on a different day each year... the old calendar was based on patterns with the sun and moon.  Anyway, from what I gather, the bunnies and eggs were adopted from a Pagan holiday that centers around fertility and new life.  I didn't know the Pagans invented chocolate.........

Still, it's kinda weird how the major Christian holidays have become so ridiculously commercialized that we have Santa Claus and reindeer and easter bunnies and chocolate eggs.
