I thought it was cute....quite sure Duff and Slash had to sign off on it....that is how you make money these days...sad but true in the record industry.

Yeah i remember when the Rolling Stones licensed Start Me Up to Microsoft for Windows 95, it was a big thing. Nowadays if you aren't doing that sort of thing you're really not making a buck with your music.

Would that have required some type of authorisation/licensing?

Yes synchronization license from the songs publisher, pretty normal for high level publishing deals to maintain "artist approval" clauses for advertising syncs, so I'd guess this was approved by Axl+Slash etc.

Doesn't bother me too much though as one of the interesting parts of GNR to me was always that Axl was clearly a rough kinda guy but also had this sweet sort of loving side. It's an interesting juxtaposition. So it's not used too badly out of context given it's a lovey-dovey song in a lovey-dovey context.  Would upset me more if they'd used jungle or one of the darker songs.

Also, you know my rant, don't like stuff like this, stop torrenting records wink We made our bed wink

Yeah man. Defiantly feel you on that.  Are we sell outs for help making our favorite bands sell outs?  16

It's an okay commercial for what it is. A little too long for my taste. I dunno, not a fan of babies either. Most people prolly won't even catch on it's sweet child. Besides I think GNRs rep for the years that it counted is well preserved.  So bring on the little ones just don't keep whoring it out there. 16

I think it's an excellent use of the song.

But then again, I don't get my panties in a knot over trivial stuff like this. I'm glad to see Zep on a Caddilac commercial. Do what you want with it. They have nothing to prove or need approval from anyone at this point.

I think this sort of stuff used to be a bigger deal than it is today, in terms of being uncool. Nowadays it's so commonplace that you're pretty much missing out if you don't play along. I don't really bat an eye about these types of things anymore.
