Tesla - Psychotic Supper
GREAT catch on the Tesla release. They are SO completely underrated and that is a great album.
Thanks man, I've seen Tesla a couple of times and they absolutely fucking rock! All their albums are solid and they are gifted songwriters and musicians as well. Psychotic Supper has three of my favorite songs on it as well. The excellent Edison's Medicine, the song written for the late Steve "Steamin" Clark (Def Leppard's guitarist) Song & Emotion and the absolute blazin' crowd-pleaser (and quite possibly Tesla's most underrated song) Had Enough. So many great albums in 1991. They don't do music like that anymore!!
I'm a fan of 92, although 91 is just as good, maybe better.
1992 Albums
Blind Melon - Blind Melon
Dirt - Alice in Chains
Sap - Alice in Chains
Broken - Nine Inch Nails
Gordon - Barenaked Ladies
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Dog Eat Dog - WarrantAlthough I'm not a big fan, STP's Core came out. Faith No More put out Angel Dust...
I'd forgot about Broken and Sap, I like Blind Melon too...1992 is a close second to 1991. Funny you mentioned Dog Eat Dog by Warrant. For the most part as their music got better their popularity declined, of course by 92 Grunge was dominating and anybody even remotely akin to "hair band" was totally fucked. Too bad, Dog Eat Dog featured some good stuff: Machine Gun/Hole in My Wall/Quicksand/All My Bridges Are Burning and Sad Theresa being my favorites.
One other album I would add to the 1991 lineup would be Great White's "Hooked". I know most people either associate Great White with the "cheese-but-fun" hits like Once Bitten Twice Shy or the horrible nightclub fire tragedy from a few years back but these guys played some INCREDIBLE music as well. The album Sail Away is arguably their best featuring a song called All Right this is excellent. Hooked (the 1991 album) started showcasing Great White as a REAL band (like Tesla) not just a dime-a-dozen pile of shit that came from the lesser hair bands of the time. Congo Square/Desert Moon/Cold Hearted Lovin'/Can't Shake It and Heartbreaker are all prime post-bullshit-hits Great White classics.

Good points Neemo. 90 did have some goodies, RIP by Megadeth for sure, Jon Bon Jovi's soundtrack for Young Guns 2 was actually my favorite work besides New Jersey by him, and Pantera's Cowboy's From Hell will always be there swan song in my opinion. One other I would add from 90 was Ac/Dc's last relevant album...The Razor's Edge.
I would definitely add Tom Petty's Great Wide Open to the 91 list but would pass on Decade by the Crue because in essence that was the real end for them in my opinion...the curse of the "Greatest Hits" package. Warrant's Cherry Pie shined in the NON hits in my opinion (with the exception of the EXCELLENT Uncle Tom's Cabin). Song and Dance Man was killer, Mr. Rainmaker kicked ass, the cover of Blackfoot's (I think that was the band) Train Train ROCKED and Sure Feels Good To Me was a taste of what the band could do when they didn't feel the need for a "hit slow song". I would also have to pass on Ugly Kid's "As Ugly As They Wanna Be" for a few simple reasons. The biggest reason is the awful "Everything About You" debuted on this cd. This song followed them onto "America's Least Wanted" and unfortunately was the start yet end of the success of UKJ. The song was catchy but shit in reality. Really sad because they are one of the best bands of the past 20 years...yes, really guys (a few know this already like Backslash, myself and Neemo but it is TRUE). The other problem with this album (besides only being an ep) is the best song on the album is "Too Bad". It is a good song but it sounds almost identical to Motley Crue, even the singing. They hadn't found their sound yet and this was the first impression that led to eventual alienation after the breakthrough album that followed. Too bad (lol)...considering their non-hits (sounds familiar, huh?) were the real gems. If you want to get turned on to some great UKJ either get "America's Least Wanted" and ignore the hits or go straight to their best album..."Menace To Sobriety" which has no hits but an arsenal of kickass rock n roll.
I agree with your 93 selections as well (although hesitantly as far as Collective Soul goes...really the throwback-to-classic-rock "Shine" was all that really hit with me). In fact I would say that the period of 91-93 was the best YEARS of rock music that has occured since the 60's...EASILY.
Re: Music's Best Year(s)??
Didn't Soul Asylum's Grave Dancers Union come out in 93?! Same thing with Counting Crows first/best album, August & Everything After. 93 also had Chronic, featuring the introduction of Snoop Dogg, and Aerosmith's Crazy/Amazing/Crying album where every song sounded the same. 91 or 92 had the release of the singles soundtrack, quite possibly the best soundtrack ever. House of Pain came out in 92 I think. And The Crow Soundtrack & I think Demolition Man soundtrack came out in 93. Demo man mixed hip-hop with heavy metal, pretty cool stuff.
I liked Boyz II Men Neemo, while they weren't exactly my style a good R&B group so that was cool to live thru. Nothing gets your girl in the mood like 'I'll make Love to You'. I still remember 'End of the Road' was a great song to get high to, amazing to hear all these voices from all these different angles. I noticed it back in 95 while driving home one night & from then on it was my favorite song to get high to. My own little secret, you know. Oh well, myb I'll pick up a bottle of wine & see if it still has the same effect.

92...but that and "Let Your Dim Light Shine" are my two favorite albums by them. I loved Leave W/O a Trace from Grave Dancers, 99% and (of course) Runaway Train and String of Pearls and Misery were the shit from Dim Light.
