Re: Obama gains more delegates

Bri, I wish you and your family the best.  Hopefully you have family or friends to hold you up until you get a place.

James, I don't mention McCain because he states that he will cut spending and end the runaway budget.  Neither Hillary or Obama make that claim.  They simply state they will tax the wealthy, which may have even worse consequences.  I don't mention McCain because you've already stated that the economy would be in more ruins under him.  My question is how would the Democratic nominee rectify it?

In case you forgot, there were recessions in the 80s and 90s that followed minimum wage increases.  There is also always an increase in unemployment.  You bitch because teh cost of groceries have gone up.  Small businesses, which make up the majority of all businesses, feel the same burden when they are forced to increase their wages.  Just as I'm sure you cut things out of your budget, employers have to cut their's as well.  I'm not blaming the economy on an increase in minimum wage alone, but it is definitely a considerable factor.  If government spending and debt didn't continue unabated, inflation would cease and there'd be no reason to raise the minimum wage.  Unfortunately, with both Hillary and Barack both wanting to create the largest and most costliest social program ever, inflation will continue.

And on a further note, it was warned that this would happen when the Democrats increased the minimum wage.  Something no one wants to mention.

Do you really think the minimum wage increase is the cause of all this?? If so, why didn't past increases(80's, 90's) send us on what looks to be a one way trip into an abyss?

Regarding wage increases, its cause and effect. Things happen that require it. The cost of living is rising dramatically(practically every day). An increase was inevitable, and expect MANY more as the dollar continues down its current path of worthlessness.

In a year when a loaf of bread will most likely be 8-10 bucks, do you think minimum wage should stay at its present rate?

More importantly, is Bush or Congress responsible for the "poor" economy?  Finally, why would we want candidates in Office who promise to spend more and increase are already record budget?  Taxing the wealthy won't do anything to drive prices down, in fact it would have the opposite affect as any economist would tell you.

Bri, we'll be praying for you and your family.

Thanks. It's good to hear that. I seriously am in the most fucked up situation I've ever been in. All because of this economy.

Again, I don't know your personal situation.  Mortgages are based on more than just credit.  In all honesty I shop at the comissary where a box of brand name cereal is only $2.25 and there is no taxes.  However, the important question is how will Hillary or Obama correct it?  More importantly, is Bush or Congress responsible for the "poor" economy?  Finally, why would we want candidates in Office who promise to spend more and increase are already record budget?  Taxing the wealthy won't do anything to drive prices down, in fact it would have the opposite affect as any economist would tell you.

Even Commissaries have been affected.  I work at one.  The government doesn't supply all the food we carry, we get it from private distributers.  We charge the price that we pay for the item, but when it costs more for a distributer, it costs more for the customer as well.  Even in a Commissary you can see increases in price.  That's why prices change every 2 weeks.  This last period of price changes, there were a lot of them.

Solution: Quit giving tax cuts to the rich and large corporations.  Start ending the massively expensive war.  I think that should just about pay for it...  and then some.

The war isn't massively exspensive, this 3 trillion dollar figure is bullshit.  We've spen 600 Billion on the war over 5 years, a large sum yes, but not nearly as large a sum as socialized medicine would be.  Not to mention, when we do need to fight another war, we'll have to add its cost on top of the outrageous cost of providing health care to those who either refuse to pay for it, fill out paperwork to get it, or are 40 and work a McDonalds type job but expect the same lifestyle as someone who possesses an actual skill.  The figures speak for themselves on health care.  Most Americans have access to care if they choose.  Only 1% don't have any access to care.  Even with your golden boy Obama's most optimistic interpretation of his plan, 5% will still be uninsured.

The answer to taxation is a flat tax so all people pay taxes proportionate to their income.  We also need to end tax credits to the people who use the most resources.

Is that an actual question or rhetorical?? If it's actual, I'm not for it. Let's face it, the gov't is going to get the same total amount of $$. And people who make $10 mil aren't spending 3 or 5 mil a year that can be taxed, so instead of them being taxed 4 or 5 mil annually, they'd be taxed much less. Whereas me, who doesn't make much, will still buy what I already am buying (necessities, groceries, gas, clothes, a vacation now & then) will be the ones making up for it. Also, I think it could hurt the economy because people might buy less as the tax would be upwards of about 20%. A $30,000 would then cost $36,000 & so on.

Maybe studies show I'm wrong, but that's my opinion.

Not too strongly, but its about to become a required move. Bush has sunk us so fucking deep that we have to start trying to dig ourselves out of the grave before we're buried.

Its time for tough decisions to be made whether they are popular or not. The 'free money and credit for everyone' Bush era has to end.

We need another Reagan. Sadly, there isn't one. The rich need a hefty tax increase, the middle class a slight increase, and likely a national sales tax for everyone. The federal gas tax needs to  be removed for at least a year. States not running massive deficits should remove their gas tax as well. There should also be a hefty alcohol tax. I am a smoker, yet I would agree to a cigarette tax.

The wars have to be brought to a decisive end. If this means turning Iraq into a barren wasteland, get the job done, and do it quick. Even if it requires mushroom clouds. Send massive reinforcements to Afghanistan and get that shithole under control. Make one last serious attempt at going after Bin Laden and al Zawahiri(assuming they are alive), even if this requires an invasion into Pakistan. If this doesn't work, pull out and call it a day.

There are many pockets of Al Queda in other countries. Limited bombings in countries such as Somalia, Georgia, Phillipines, etc. would do wonders at striking at the hearts of terrorist organizations. The tables would turn. Instead of us creating battlefields for these guys to kill americans, they would start running and trying to regroup. When intel comes in on where they are going, hit them again.

Something also has to be done about these MASSIVE trade deficits with the majority of the world, specifically asian countries. Not exactly sure how to tackle this problem(which is a major threat to our economy no one talks about), but a solution would likely require huge tariffs that could lead to several trade wars. I realize imposing huge tariffs is a risky move, but it will probably have to be done. Bush is a fucking moron for letting this get so out of control.
