Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
The most recent polls have McCain leading Obama in the general election. I've noticed this trend for a while now, the larger and more accurate polls seem to show McCain on top. If McCain can win Ohio, and it's my prediction against Obama that he will, McCain will be our next President.

McCain 48% to Obama 42%. His lead is identical against Clinton: http://rasmussenreports.com/public_cont … cking_poll
While it is much to early to claim any candidate has an advantage, I think this clearly takes the wind out of camps that claim the Democrats are a sure thing.
Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
Take off that biased Rasmussin poll & Obama's leading. That's like me showing a poll conduted by moveon.org. The latest Quinnipiac poll shows Clinton handily beats McCain something like 51-44.
Also, these polls are just popular elections. Don't take into consideration which states the support is for. No way McCain wins Ohio or Michigan. No way.

Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
I wasn't aware that Ramussen was a biased company. There is another poll on the site that shows McCain leading as well. Again, the more people polled, the more accurate it is. Other than you asserting Obama will win Ohio, why do you think so. I'm from Ohio and can tell you (as the primary showed) that Ohioans won't eat up Obama's message of hope and change, Ohioans need actual promises and look to your history - another reason Kerry lost Ohio in 04.
Find me another (recent) poll with 1700 people and I'll take into account your claim that ramuessen is biased.
Edit:
Is gallup biased too? http://www.gallup.com/poll/105040/Gallu … ma-45.aspx 4500 voters in this one.
Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
Look at the average of all the polls combined. It's Obama 45.6, McCain 46. Take off Rasmussen (which has McCain winning by 6%) and the lead goes to Obama.
It's useless to follow polls like this, the election is 8 months away!! Wait until the media gets on the 5 year anniversary of the war and troop deaths hit 4,000 and McCain will drop fast.

Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
I'm not arguing that it is way too early to make any assessment. My point was to refute the notion (that you apparently hold) that the election is a slam dunk for Obama. If we can throw out any poll we want because we don't like it, I can do the same thing. Even without the Rameussen poll, Obama's lead is only within a point or two, well within the Margin of Error. My point is this, the fanaticism and assertion by some that Obama will undoubtedly take the election, is naieve and ill-informed. I'm not stating that Obama can't/won't win, just that it's not a sure thing and McCain is anything but out.

Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
I would put money on it that McCain will be the next president. If the superdelegates give Hillary the nomination, the party will split in half and give the presidency to John McCain. Obama will not be elected president because of his shady ties, lack of experience, and questionable judgement.
Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
McCain isn't getting the presidency. Economists, talking heads, etc. are seriously using the word "depression" to describe what is in store for this country, and there's just no way in hell anyone even remotely associated with Bush is going to win.
I know the few who still follow the republicans want this country to implode, and it probably will. So in that sense your mission has been accomplished.
Its just not going to completely crumble under the Bush/McCain watch unless the stock market suffers a total meltdown in the coming months(which is possible).
Either Hillary or Obama will be the one who attempts to pick up the pieces of a once indestructible superpower.

Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
McCain leads Obama 49-42 and Clinton 49-41 in latest poll.

You folks better start getting used to the idea of John McCain. Let's see if ol' Barack can deliver some change while in the Senate for 4 more years or if it is all talk. A man so capable of uniting people should obviously be chosen as the Senate Majority Leader.
Re: 2008 Presidential Poll Thread
2 things. The election is still 7+ months away, so the constant infighting between Hilary & Obama is hurting them now, it may not resonate come the fall. However, I do believe that the dems may need to team up in order to win this thing (Pres & the other be VP). One things for sure, they do need each others support. If Hilary wins, she'll need Barack to deliver a powerful, uniting speech during the convention. If Barack wins, he needs Hilary AND Bill, to endorse him and help campaign for him. As well as other members like Al Gore & John Edwards etc.
I do think Barack is going to end up winning, the big question is if and moreso how much the Clintons will support him. Regardless, people like Gore, Kennedy & Edwards, Michael Bloomburg can step up.
