Re: Music's Best Year(s)??

I was digging through some old cds today and as I was doing so I noticed something....1991 was a KICK ASS year for rock!!  Although I'm sure we all have many different years we would pick as THE BEST I can honestly say 1991 was the best for me...bar none!

Cds That Came Out In 1991
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
Pearl Jam - Ten
Nirvana - Nevermind
Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion I and II
Metallica - The Black Album
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magick
Tesla - Psychotic Supper

There may have been more but these came to mind readily and solidified my decision!

The year to follow (1992) was very close with releases like Ozzy's No More Tears, Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction, Alice in Chain's Dirt, Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark and STP's Core.

I'm pretty sure No More Tears actually came out the same day as the Illusion albums did.  Which helps make me second 1991 with you.  I could be wrong though.

Also U2 Achtung Baby came out a few weeks after UYI. Jane's Addicition & Smashing Pumpkins also had releases I think. In general  91-93 were great years. 67-69 were probably great to live thru also.

THANKS for reminding me of U2...that was the major one I couldn't recall!!  I'm not sure about the Smashing Pumpkins cd unless you are talking about GISH, it came out around then but I didn't really get into the Pumpkins until Siamese Dream.  Seems like there may have been a greatest hits by the Pumpkins in 91.    Jane's "Ritual De Lo Habitual" was released in 1990, I'm not sure if that's the one you were talking about by them or not.  I didn't jump on the "Jane Wagon" until that album.

You're not wrong.  I own all the said cds I listed and I should have looked on the back of the cd rather than the far corners of my own mind's (faltering apparently) memory.  Ozzy's BEST album (imo) WAS indeed released in 1991 making my justification for calling 1991 the best year for music solidified.  Thanks Jorge!!

These corrected errors REALLY help me stand by my decision, check out the list now!

Yeah I was referring to Gish, just the underground movement that was developing. With them, Jane's, the Pixies leading to the explosion of alternative music in 92-93. But you're right, they all didn't release an album in 91, I guess I started hearing about a few of them in late 91 possibly 92 though. It's a ways back. I didn't hear about the Pixies until 91 or 92, even though they were around in the late 80's.

Re: Music's Best Year(s)??

I'm a fan of 92, although 91 is just as good, maybe better.

1992 Albums

Blind Melon - Blind Melon
Dirt - Alice in Chains
Sap - Alice in Chains
Broken - Nine Inch Nails
Gordon - Barenaked Ladies
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Dog Eat Dog - Warrant

Although I'm not a big fan, STP's Core came out. Faith No More put out Angel Dust...

September 1992 may be the best month in music. Blind Melon, AIC, NIN, STP all in one month.

I own all or most of those albums too, but the only reason I remember that No More Tears came out the same day as Illusions is because I had one of those GnR comics back in the day.  It showed Ozzy behind a two-way mirror in a record store watching people buy GNR albums instead of his.

It was a comic book, so who knows about the accuracy, but it's an image that's always stuck with me.

And yeah, best Ozzy album by leaps and bounds as far as I'm concerned.
