The more I listen to CD (the song), the more I agree.

Pointless. I think Frank added alot in places (as I just never got the Brain thing), but I enjoyed songs like Chinese more techno, I think Street was better rocked up with Robin & Bucket.

Ron nearly destroyed Catcher. It's still good, but it was great with Brian May.

Nah, it's a mess. Too much unnecessary crap added to the songs.

The bubbles sound effect almost takes the cake.  I just got a visual of Ron's "foot" guitar.  My gentle Jesus, that was bad.

You know how Axl got the 2000 era lineup to rerecord AFD..... well I'd like to hear the the old lineup(AFD or Illusion) rerecord Chinese Democracy. Would probably be fuckin badass if they stripped it of all the nonsense layers and production and just made it into a rock record.  Slash would make the songs take flight. Imagine what he'd do with the Blues, this I Love or even TWAT. YES even TWAT. Axl would make Slash's songs take flight at well. Imagine what he'd have done with Slither, Messages or Anastasia.

As it stands I'm a  less is more kinda guy that's why Slash's music post Gn'R is better to me than Axl's. Axl tries too hard(god that sounds like a fucking oxy moron) to be epic. Slash just lets it come and that's how you get to epic. You can't force it. Axl thinks you can.

For the record I think the long intro to CD on the album is cool. It's easily edited for radio as it should be but in an album context it was cool.

People have their own tastes when it comes to forms of art. One may say it's a mess while the other says it's a masterpiece. That's life!

Of course it's just opinions. Russ disputed my opinion in the first place when he said it isn't in any way a mess. To me it is a mess. It is an above average album IMHO but I think it could have been better if the production was simpler.

Saying "Nah, it's a mess" is a repeated opinion, not an argument.

I wouldn't have repeated it if you didn't lecture me about how I was listening to the album wrong. I've listened to it in many different ways and I've come to the same conclusion. It is a mess in my opinion. Axl had good ideas but he struggled to bring everything together in an organic way. It took him at least 10 years to make the album. That is the definition of struggle in the music business when you're on a $15m budget.

While I haven't listened to it in the manner Russ described, I can't imagine any way of listening to it that it isn't a mess.  The clutter is clutter no matter what...I suppose on top of the line stuff the clutter might be clearer/cleaner, but it's still clutter.

I will say I enjoyed the songs I heard live (other than TWaT) better than the album versions.  There seemed to be less clutter, or if it was there I couldn't hear it for whatever reason.  I have always said a stripped down version of CD would probably be something I would enjoy quite a bit more than the album, but that's pure speculation on my part.

So I'm a huge CD fan, but I also think that some of the material for overworked. I think CD was better without Frank, with Ax singing low with no double tracking, "like if your ass was your head you could tell". I think the long ass intro is great for opening an album but doesn't do much for the song.

I think The Blues was better as The Blues, that some of the earlier Robin-driven versions worked better at driving the emotional dynamic that Axl is so great at writing and that Slash was so great at realizing.

I think that for some unknown (to me) reason, the Prostitute we got leaked was way more powerful than the album. Wish I could put my finger on it, but that song should have been one the world talked about and instead it's never mentioned.

So while im not trashing CD, I do think it was a case in places of an artist needing to pit down the damn brush. This hasnt stopped me from listening to it on a weekly (daily!) basis since 2008 (2005 if you count the leaks). It is by far the mosy listened to thing on my playlist.

Also, I wish some of these arguments could take place without people getting so dug in thatthey need to dig up reasons to shit on the other person's band member. Its plain bizarre to see people defending Axl by shitting on Slash ( and Izzy etc) and vice versa. Before I really started following Axl' s post UYI lineup I used to log into gnr msg boards in 2002ish. The same convos were going on then. And we still pick them like open sores. Its just weird sometimes. Unless you truly hate one guy or another, there's no good reason for propping up your 'pro' arguments with 'anti' ones if that even makes sense.
