Re: GNR headlining Governor's Ball

Well, let's hope it's filmed – and that because Axl will have warmed up from the Aussie tour, he'll be in decent vocal shape. There have been way too many shows that followed extended breaks (RIR III, RIR 2011, etc) that have been broadcast, showing him at his worst. If he can belt out a few songs that sound like he did in 2006, he'll be laughing.

Here's basically all that the link says:

"The Governors Ball just a big boost from Axl Rose: Guns N' Roses** have been added as headliners for the New York festival in June, joining Kanye West**, Kings of Leon**, Nas**, the Avett Brothers, Grizzly Bear, Kendrick Lamar, the Lumineers, Animal Collective, Feist, Gary Clark Jr., the Dirty Projectors, Japandroids and more."

I've never even heard of this thing. And I thought that said Gilby Clark Jr. 16

Gary Clark is very talented guitar player.

Listened to some of his stuff. Very cool. Especially the song numb.

Looks like there quite a bit of backlash over the decision to have Axl headline this festival. Here's the petition to have him removed from the bill.

This is the festival's fb page. From all these comments, I can't see the set going over to well.

Well that will teach the people who thought it was great that GNR are playing to a different (cool indie?) audience, getting away from the metal audiences.

They should play the Hang Out festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  Fucking killer.  On the beach in May with beautiful babes all over in bikinis.  Last year they had Dave Matthews, Jack White, RHCP, Flogging Molly, Flaming Lips, and a bunch of other cool acts.

There's no such thing as bad press, right?  I swear sometimes I think these things are scripted.  I mean, would someone seriously care THAT much about a festival to try and have an act removed?  Seems preposterous to me.  And if this keeps up, GNR could totally turn this into something positive.  COULD, being the operative word.

This actually kind of hurts my feelings.  THe fact these liberal indie fucks hate GNR that much, both old and new, just shows where the USA is in musical taste, in the fucking gutter.

Number of great bands that are coming out nowadays in this country are very slim.

the backlash shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. the lineup is a cool lineup but let's face it Gn'R is way out of place on that bill. It's quite a stupid decision "style wise" to have them on such a bill let alone headlining. Can't blame them for trying but nobody should be surprised by this. There are a lot of bands I like that I could see playing a festival together yet if you threw Gn'R on the bill I'd think it's stupid. Say you had Ozzfest and decided to throw the Killers on there., I like the Killers but any clown can see how poor a match that would be. That's basically what this is.

Guns N' Roses should drop out and make a fucking album..... duh,.

How are they any more out of place than Kanye West?  Are people bothered by his presence there?
