The second episode last Monday was EVEN BETTER and scarier even.

This show might become my favorite new show... fast. I'm shocked something this good is even on network TV, let alone Fox network. Sure enough... they'll cancel it.

I enjoyed the flashbacks as they fleshed out some of the characters.  That Emma chick is messed up and a psycho.  I like the tension between Emma, her boyfriend and the other guy who may or may not be gay.  Liked the new FBI profiler Parker more than the woman who was on the pilot.

Nitpicks or minor issues (and some spoilers):  Policework for the second straight week.  How do you only send one (a rookie too) policeman to guard Carroll's ex wife?  It boggles the mind why they didn't have her more heavily guarded.

Speaking of Carroll's ex-wife, I hope her story and the Bacon character go somewhere because that's the one part of the plot where it bores me a little.

I watching this tonight as I downloaded it.  I have high hopes for it.

Ratings went up for episode 2 which means people who were curious stuck and word of mouth worked.

Show will be around a while. Kevin Bacon said he was signed to a certain amount of seasons... I wanna say 4 but don't quote me on that.

I saw the premiere of The Americans over the weekend... could be the best new show in YEARS, if done right.

The show itself has MAJOR shades of the original Miami Vice. The tone, the atmosphere, the ambience, the cinematography, the extreme darkness, nihilism, neo-Noir direction, etc.

Many scenes reminded me of some of their foreign intrigue episodes they did back on Vice.

If Keri Russell plays this right, she could win an Emmy.

Easily, The Americans is the most different, unique new show i've seen this 2012-13 season. Nice to see ambience, and tone back on TV. Luck tried to do it, but it was so brilliant all of the 'tards didn't get it. I think The Americans might suffer the same fate. It's TOO smart. It's TOO good.

Re: The Following

Missed the third episode since I have work and evening class that are back to back; so it takes me awhile to get back home from campus. So I may check it out sometime when it gets on demand. Loved the second episode and a step up from the pilot.

Still waiting for the Americans pilot to show up on demand Fios. Glad to hear praise for it. It looked very appealing from all the promos and I haven't been disappointed by most of FX's programming except of course those elephants in the room like god awful Anger Management or that Russel Brand show.

Anger Management is not great, but i'd still take it (Charlie Sheen and a new cast), over what's become of Two and a Half Men which is (new lead singer and the old band).

Yeah. Caught with Episode 3 of The Following and starting to get with the show and entertained by it. Great acting and suspense during this episode.

Anyone still watching this?  I'm on the fence about watching the rest of the year.  I don't really give a shit about the relationship between the three wannabe killers.  So that's been boring me whenever that is brought up.  The bigger problem is that the law enforcement in this series gets stupider by the week.  I'm still going to watch the next few epsiodes but they gotta stop the stupidity.  Either that or come up with some better plot lines where I can overlook the FBI/ local cops incompetence.

On a different note, The Americans is excellent and I'm looking forward to tonights EP.

Re: The Following

I'm losing a ton of interest with that show at the moment. Love the cast they brought in; but yeah the whole stupid jealously and bickering between the cult follower group is irritating and annoying. It slows down the pace and the followers are just assholes and I don't care about their development. I wish Kevin Bacon's character had more depth instead of sulking around in every scene. Get some damn sleep and kick ass Bacon, geez.

But..yeah..I'm catching up with the Americans. Saw the first two episodes though quite long are very engaging and have strong characters and dire situations that can keep interest. Time period is great and they had a Phil Collins song in the pilot. What more could you want? smile  Loving the premise and hoping to catch up with the third episode which I heard was stellar and tonight's when I get back home from work & class or sometime during the week when I have free time. You think we should start a separate thread for the Americans? The problem is alot of these shows are hard to keep up with. I may sacrifice my viewings of the Following since it's boring even with the Poe concepts because the Americans has a stronger level of wit and creativity.

My biggest (amongst several) gripe with the show is that people who KNOW they may be targets don't insist on going wherever Kevin Bacon goes. Seriously, your kid was kidnapped while the police were in your house, you've been attacked several times, but when it all calms down, Kevin Bacon leaves you with some dude standing outside your room who for all you know is another sleeper cultie.

The only way this show makes sense is to turn it into a comedy with the group of people who refuse to leaves Kevin Bacon's side expanding with every episode.

I made the Halloween-reference earlier in the thread, and I remember watching those films and thinking -- "why doesn't everyone literally cling to Dr. Loomis' leg?" Donald Pleasence seemed damn near invincible to Michael, and I always felt if I was in those movies I would be literally with him 24/7, because he seems to constantly 'make it'.

Same thing exists with The Following. Kevin Bacon seems to constantly get out of predictaments, and those who aren't around him, of course -- die.

With that said -- I still think the show is fantastic, and it still is slowly becoming my favorite show on TV. It has so much potential, and I love it's presentation and tone. It's a far better show than garbage like Criminal Minds.

I also thought the twist of turning the serial killers relationship into a Polyandry-relationship was a big twist, because I thought for sure that bitch was gonna kill the gay dude, especially after she found out her lover wasn't a killer. Instead she embraced him, which I did not see coming.

Not to mention how unsettling it was seeing them all together in the shower. At times it seemed a little creepy and risque for something typically on Fox at 9-10p ET on Mondays.

Either way, the show still has alot of potential, but I think more work on Kevin Bacon's character and backstory needs to be done other than he has the hots for Joe's wife. They're starting to make Bacon one-dimension and basically "some FBI profiler with a gun that Joe has it out for".

So far the killers have been far more fascinating to watch, and that's not good when you're star is starting to fade to the background.

Still a great show.

The Americans for me is starting to slow down, but it still remains a fascinating throwback 80's neo-noir series with tons of character development, something you don't see much of anymore.
