Re: The Following
currently d/ling this. wondering if any of you have seen it?
reads a little like Fox does Dexter but since it's only the pilot thought i'd give it a go..
Re: The Following
I've never really been one for the hour long tv dramas but this one looked good. I planned on watcing it tonight and fell asleep before it even started. Missed the entire thing so it's a series now that I will never watch I can't be botherd if I miss the first one. Looked like it could be good though
I don't watch much tv though. People would be shocked at the amount of shows I've never seen a single episode of.

I watched it tonight and enjoyed it. James Purefoy (aka Mark Anthony from HBO's Rome series) was great. It was somewhat more violent than the usual broadcast tv series.
It is nothing like Dexter. Felt the characters (outside from the main two) were pretty bland and boring. I'll probably keep watching because Purefoy is pretty good in his role.
They're also adding new characters as I noticed Annie Parisse in a promo for a future episodes. I was a big Law and Order fan so I recognized her pretty quickly.
Re: The Following
I decided to watch it, and honestly in the first act I thought "where is this going?". It felt like ANOTHER Criminal Minds-type Unsub show where generic FBI profiler chases evil serial killer.
ALL and I mean ALL of the Psychlogy doctors I know ADORE Criminal Minds, and it's because it's a pretty accurate show to psych profiles, and alot of the stories are ripped from actual FBI cases.
My problem with Criminal Minds is it's not psychological enough. It's not scary enough. It's not a TV show enough. It opts for more shock and awe, and basic U.S. Marshal-style pursuit of suspects with warrants out of them, that just happens to have blood n' guts. Kind of like C.S.I.
I hate that.
Thankfully The Following, once it picked up, really satisfied what i'd like to see in shows like these, and how MY mind actually works in this kind of stuff (i'm going into Forensics, unlike several of my collegues).
The Following is alot creepier, and Kevin Bacon is really good at playing an obsessed FBI agent/crossed with Psych profiler. His reservation and alcoholism, then suddenly out of nowhere he goes all Dr. Loomis by the final act of the pilot was awesome.
The serial killer guy, with the Charles Manson-type "following" (hence the title), is a great story arc, and is deliciously evil.
I don't know how much influence Kevin Williamson had on the show, but I will admit the show had a bit of a dated-feel. The series' look and feel seemed to be a bit more 90's. Simpler film-style, and the tone, music and atmosphere honestly had a real Halloween H2O-kinda feel. At times I felt like I was watching something from 1997-1999.
And because of that, I will also say that the show, with the creepier vibe (and let me assure you--IT IS CREEPY!), has a real "Millennium" feel. Anyone who remembers late 90's Fox TV will remember a nice little run, but not long, 3-seasons and done show called Millennium, which starred Lance Henriksen of Aliens-fame, as an FBI profiler with keen instincts and a psychic ability, and an underlying recurring story arc featuing 'The Millennium Group'. It was a sister-show to The X-Files, and very similar. So much that there was a crossover to wrap up the show on The X-Files after the show ended it's run in 1999.
The Following feels ALOT like that to me. So if you enjoy more horror-like suspense in your Unsub FBI profiler shows, and enjoyed stuff like Millennium or even to an extent The X-Files, and stuff like Criminal Minds is just too simplistic-action show for you... you'll enjoy The Following.
I'll definitely be watching again next week. It's alot better than 2 Broke Whores on See-BS.

Re: The Following
Hoping to catch up on the first episode sometime this week as well as catch up on a few other shows. Glad to hear the good praise. Nice way to kick off a TV program.

Re: The Following
Update: Got around to watching the pilot last night and was quite impressed by the acting and the cinematography. Hopefully the rest of the series is amazing. I know it will be hard to keep up with once some other shows I enjoy come back.

Re: The Following
The second episode last Monday was EVEN BETTER and scarier even.
This show might become my favorite new show... fast. I'm shocked something this good is even on network TV, let alone Fox network. Sure enough... they'll cancel it.
That's how Fox gets it done. I might be able to catch up tonight. I heard the pilot for The Americans on FX was very good too.
