Re: Mike Patton: Faith No More Reunion Has 'Petered Out'

Fans hoping for some more material from the recently reunited Faith No More are set to be disappointed by Mike Patton's recent suggestion that the band might have come to an end.

Speaking to Believer magazine, Patton had the following to say when he was asked if the band was "still happening":

"It's sort of petered out. We're also maybe a little too conscious for our own good. Meaning there's a lineage of bands that maybe did some nice things and then needed the cash and got back together and basically just sprayed diarrhea over their entire body of work. We're very worried about that. We don't want to overdo it."

Patton also stated that the reason it had taken the band so long to reunite in the first place was that they didn’t want it to be a nostalgia trip:
"We wanted it to feel fresh and still somehow vital... It wasn't an money grab. It's funny to say, but we all kind of reconnected, and after quite a long time we all kinda looked at each other and were like, 'Man, we actually spent half of our lives together.' It's interesting to see it through that set of glasses as opposed to the ones you wore back then. I suppose, at least personally speaking, I've grown up a lot since then, and I think I approach the music differently, and I felt better about the music than I did then."

Axl, are you reading this?

and every reuniting band should take this into consideration... although as a fan, I'd be happier with getting a cash grab reunion, than with getting a cash grab tribute band.

Mike completely summed up how I feel about reunions, both in bands and in your personal life. They either mean something, or why bother?

FNM's reunion has petered out for the exact reason they aren't recording, and the fact they were never really THAT big of a band to begin with. When Soundgarden's reunion only appealed to a cult/grunge audience, then FNM's reunion is that much smaller x 5.

I would love to hear the band whip up a direct-sequel to Album of the Year and pick up where they left off, but at the same time I understand that they know that album will only do so well. So is it worth it to push yourself to that level?

As for Axl, I completely agree he'd be FAR HAPPIER and FAR RICHER if he'd just bite the bullet and do the reunion. I think he'd be alot happier and content than he gives the reunion credit, because he's so hung up on the tension of being around Slash again after so many years. You'd probably get some new music as well with Izzy there.

Guys, is it only a matter of time?  I long to see them hanging out and just giving a hug to each other.

I think it's a matter of time. I really do. Maybe it's my heel turn for 2013, I don't know... but this new Guns thing is over. I know there is like 100 people from the GN'R geek world that will say "they've toured since 2001 like this", but Team Brazil is after that dollar and right now they just keep the train rolling. They know that if Axl wants to keep his NAME (Guns N' Roses) as a brand alive, he is GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE A CHANGE.

Write that down

As to what that will be? I don't know. Reunion, new music, suicide. Something. But what he's doing now, doesn't sell and it's hurting his brand, regardless of if he can pull in $12 million a year in world tours (which sucks for the kind of brand GN'R is btw)

Eventually it will happen. Just a question of when.

Which is why I think it will happen more. Only Axl would wait until his voice is absolute terror on mic to pull the trigger. The dude has no timing.

Guys... This is Axl.... He's the complete opposite of Mike Patton. I'll say it right now with a certainty reserved for things like "the sun's gonna come up tomorrow"... In that.. I could be wrong... but, what are the chances?

Mr. Rose will never allow himself to acquire the necessary amount of perspective to echo a statement like the one above.

EVER.
