Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
^Bah... score some legal goals and then we'll talk... haha
Scarlett, what's going on with Boston's defense/goaltending? They're getting slaughtered again tonight and this time it's against the Laffs.
I don't know if you know this, but Tim Thomas' mother is battling cancer, and his grandfather is very ill. He hasn't been the same since his grandfather became sick. I truly believe he needs a week off to visit with loved ones and spend time with them- he's a bit down because his Mom always came to every home game to cheer him on. So, I think for him, he is just not focused right now on the game with all the worry in his personal life, as he's been flopping all over the place, leaving out juicy rebounds and has blown a gasket several times the last few games with players and refs. He desperately needs time off. He's a warrior, though, and I expect him to dust himself off and get back into form soon. I just hope it won't be too late before we see him making decent saves again, as we can't afford too many more losses, especially like tonight's and the game against Washington.
Ward is currently injured, and Allen should really be back in the AHL. Hnidy is what he is, a 6/7 defenseman being expected to do too much above his capabilities. Our offense also needs to step it up- can't win hockey games when your first and second lines are completely shut down.
All in all, we've had a great season, considering Bergeron, Fernandez, and Albert's have been out for a good chunk of the season due to injuries (thanks, Philly, for helping us lose two key players out of three for a huge part of the season, you farking morons). We have a lot of kids on the team, and they're playing fantastic. I just hope Chiarelli doesn't trade our youth away, they all look promising and will be frightening to play against as they mature.
Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
I didn't know he had so many things going on in his personal life... He definitely needs some time off. Of course, he's always been an unorthodox goalie, he reminds me of Hasek in his playing style. But they could play Auld more, especially if Thomas is having personal issues. Auld's a quality goalie, as proven a few years ago when Cloutier stunk it up in Vancouver. If Fernandez comes back before the end of the season, I'd imagine it would create a bit of a goaltending controversy.
Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
leafs are pretty much fucked now 8 points back with 12 games remaining and 6 teams in front of them for the 7th and 8th playoff spots, their sched is favorable for this race though cuz 8 of their remaining games are against 4 of those teams, if they win all 8 of those games then they could get in but if they lose any then thats about all she wrote
they have 3 games against Buffalo, 2 against Phili, Boston, the Habs and the Sens plus a game against the Isles
East Standings
1. New Jersey* - 86pts
2. Montreal * - 85pts
3. Carolina * - 79pts
4. Pittsburgh - 85pts
5. Ottawa - 83pts
6. NY Rangers - 81pts
7. Boston - 80pts
8. Philadelphia - 78pts--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Buffalo - 74pts
10. Washington - 72pts
11. Florida - 72pts
12. NY Islanders - 71pts
13. Toronto - 70 pts
14. Atlanta - 68pts
15. Tampa Bay - 60pts
plus its bullshit that Carolina is that high up in ths standings

Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
Of that current playoff set, I could only root for Pittsburgh or Carolina. I can't stand most of those teams. The onyl team below the bar that I dislike all that much is the Isles. Hopefully Buffalo will make it, or maybe Washington. I like the Caps quite a bit.
Gotta win tonight Sabres!
Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
holy crap the leafs won!
i fell asleep whtn it was 3-1 philli i figured it was over and i woke up and they fucking won...what the hell
so 7 points back with 11 games left asnd thw win moves them up to a tie for 10th with washington and florida the race in the east is tight every year... its crazy
Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
I stayed at my girlfriend's house last night, and she doesn't have cable so I didn't get to see the Habs tear Brodeur a new one. 1st place temporarily, although the Devils have a game in hand!
It's too bad the Leafs game went to OT though... This whole 1 point for a loss is bullshit (unless it's a shootout). I mean, they could've been 6 points back. And, Philly has a game in hand, so being 7 points back is temporary if Philly wins that extra game.
And Neemo, you like the Wings and now this year they're the best in the league and you've switched teams and started cheering for the Leafs during their worst season since the 90s. I don't get it. Hahah
Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
i follow both teamsjust the Leafs are a more accessible team where i live.
But yeah wings looked like crap when Rafalski and Lidtrom were out...but now things are coming together again
still I'm not sure i'm feeling it this year with them, i dont know if they have what it takes to win it all, still their place in the standings is a surprise, 2 years with very good records after losing 2 huge peices of their leadership,
