Re: 12/07/2012 - Bhartiya City, Bangalore, India
Sorry, but The Seeker sucks ass, especially when there are so many other much better songs from CD, and the GN'R back catalogue that they could be busting out instead of it.
And while they're at it, they can fuck off that shitty Neil Young cover too.
The thing I don't get, is that they clearly communicated together about playing new songs with Axl, for The Seeker to turn up in the set in the first place.
So obviously if Axl can get his shit together to learn that song, why not get it together to play some other seldom played GN'R tune instead?/End rant
You're wrong. If you want to throw Ranting around, be pissed GN'R plays Whole Lotta Rosie, plays KOHD for the upteenth time, LALD, and that HORRIBLE Neil Young cover Don't Let It Bring You Down with Mickey Mouse Axl.
The Seeker is actually the FIRST cover i've heard from Axl in this entire version of THIS band, that vocally he sounds supreme on, all because it's in the lower-register.
The Seeker is probably the ONE cover they need to keep. Not get rid of.
But I do understand WHY you're ranting, and for that part I agree.

Re: 12/07/2012 - Bhartiya City, Bangalore, India
The Seeker has also been on the "setlist" for a few years now hasn't it? So it would seem as if they've been working on that song for some time, and it wasn't just a spur of the moment thing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure The Seeker cover made it's debut in Vegas, so it was more of a spur of the moment thing, not something that was worked on for some time.
And I still think the song sucks ass....

^ I think he means like how "Oh My God" is always listed as an option and never played..."The Seeker" was written on some setlists long before it's debut....

I'm wrong in thinking the song is shit?
Axl may sing it well, but I just don't like the song, it does nothing for me. I don't like the melody, or the lyrics, or the music.
But yep, I'm wrong, because Axl sings it well....
And the difference with KOHD or LALD, is that they were always GN'R staples, and were actually hits that the band are kinda expected to play.
The Seeker is none of these things, and is still a shit song...
Re: 12/07/2012 - Bhartiya City, Bangalore, India
Different strokes for different folks....The Seeker and Don't Let It Bring You Down are fuckin killer. Period. I'll take those two songs over 75% of the Gnr catalog. Great covers that if done in 1991 nobody would have a problem with.

Re: 12/07/2012 - Bhartiya City, Bangalore, India
^ That's because In 1991 when Axl did a cover it was based around him getting a famous song like LALD or KOHD and adding something of his and slash's unique sounds to it that made it their own.
In 2012 the song choice is about what Axl can get away with singing now that he's lost his voice. Ac/Dc is chosen cos you can have endless guitar shreds and almost no vocals (riff raff), and the Seeker cos it's easier to sing than any of Axl's own songs.

That is what I meant. The Seeker was on one of those leaked setlists awhile back and people were debating whether it was a new song or not. So again, that would lead me to believe that they've been working on the song for quite some time.

So recapping this thread....
I've been told the seeker is better than 100% of Chinese Democracy and 75% of the entire GNR back catalogue.
It's time for Axl to fulfil his destiny and take his father's place at my side.
Record "The Seeker", add it to the AFD redux album with Robin Fink playing Slash's solos...and all vocals done with no rasp....then release it simply as a self titled album: "Guns 'N Roses".
Do it and your journey to the dark side of the force will be complete.

Re: 12/07/2012 - Bhartiya City, Bangalore, India
I'm just getting my head around it.
100% of CD and 75% of All GNR.
I mean I guess I always knew the seeker is more impressive vocally than the twat screams, the IRS scream, and it's deeper than Catcher in the Rye.
And it's obvious The Seeker shits all over AFD. That much is just a given. No point even measuring it.
As for the illusions. Seeker def trumps November Rain, Estranged, You Could be Mine, Double Talking Jive, Civil War.
Kind of embarrassing that those songs follow the seeker live sometimes. What is Axl thinking. How can you top it?
So I guess the 25% number is about right. I mean realistically the only thing that's in the same class as it is "So Fine" and MAYBE "my world" - those kick the shit out of the seeker....but the other 75% of GNR songs are just crapppppppppppppp.
