For what it's worth, I've personally set 2013 as my high (or low) water mark for "the future of GN'R". I think that they need to finish out the year in India with the tour set up they've been running since about 2010, take a break til early spring then start the cycle on whatever's next. And by "whatever's next", I mean brand new material of some sort released in some way to the public.

If 2013 comes with either nothing from GN'R or another tour similar to what we've seen for the past couple years, I'm going to assume it actually is the nostalgia act everyone has been trying to say they are.

I would have thought they might have included some more Chinese songs, IRS, Rhiad, Prostitute etc. or Oh my god!

Plenty of time to rehearse and practice, no travel complications.

I don't know why they would need a 4 month break either!

IRS was a staple in 06 and always went over well with casuals, I'm surprised they don't play it more.

I don't expect a new song. I finally got over my HOF butthurt. I just REALLY would like to hear something new. It would revitalize the excitement a thousandfold... Not just with me... With everyone.

Unfortunately I think the definition of "everyone" diminishes each day.  In other words, the anticipation for new GNR music was at an all time high leading up to the release of CD, and obviously diminished even during that time.  So now, it's down to the hardcores.  We're the only ones who care if GNR ever releases another new song.  Now don't get me wrong, if they were to release a really great song, they might be able to win some people over and make them start caring again.  That's not an easy task though with the state of the music industry.

For the most part, it's all about the almighty dollar at this point.  Money is made from touring.  And with all these tour dates continuing to pop up, there's really no need to focus on creating new music, or getting new music out to the public.  I expect nothing new until they take an actual extended break, and even then it's no guarantee.  This is a band that took a decade to release one album, in which there was a LOT of inactivity.  I'd find it shocking they could release an album now that they're constantly touring (in a sense).  Especially if they keep hitting areas of the world they've never played before, or haven't played for some time.  I know times have changed, but all these random dates don't seem like the avenue to debut new songs for a new album.  MOST bands still follow the formula of setting up a proper tour to promote their newest work.  Of course GNR aren't most bands, but these shows are all about making money and playing the hits for the fans, while STILL promoting CD.  There's no sign that is going to change anytime soon.  So we're sort of hoping against hope for new music at this point.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

Some review guy once said (in 2002 or something) that the world did not need another Motley Crue album because we had all the Crue albums we needed.

What a fucking silly thing to say.

New music is new music and I rocked out to it, and it wasn't half bad either that album.

Everyone should welcome new creation of music or artistery.

And then bash it if needed.

But without new creations, everyone can go home and jerk off until the cows come home.

And if CD had not come and I still would have to listen to AFD I would not really be into GNR any longer.

The thought of new music keeps me going, without it I see no point rather than stopping by for a show because it's the fun thing to do.

I'm not gonna threw around "I'm out" comments, but if they don't do something within the next year or so... i'll be busy and disillusioned enough to just not give a damn anymore.

I can understand Axl's issues with the whole thing. The money is in touring or a reunion. Not a new new-GN'R album. But at the same time to keep any street cred at all, he HAS to do that

I just know my interest has plateaued and died with CD and this recycling tour over and over again that even if the album was a monster hit, should've been over 2 years ago.

To keep the hardcores like myself around for years to come, new music is the only way.

I'm not saying "do this, do that, do it now or i'm out" and all this shit, it's just a comment. I've been pretty heated about it since probably early 2011, but I pretty much agree with Russ. If 2013 holds ANOTHER jaunt around the world with the nostalgia act, then it'll be exactly what it is now. Guns N' Roses will basically be a Rolling Stones-level Cinderella. Nothing more.

And in the end everything I wanted it not to become, and propably what the mainstream wanted them to become. Keep playing those hits, pretend it's 1987 all over again.

Nothing to do with "Im out" or "Im leaving" or whatever, but in contrast to all silly people thinking Axl should not release more music because it destroys the name GNR (whatever the fuck that means when you had a non-working entity of drug addicts and a mentally insane person in the band from day one), I NEED new music or my interest will fade.

I'm not quitting at one book just because the next one will fuck up my rep. LOL. Creating new things is what I do.

I think for me it's because historically the band has a history of pulling out new works at important events - going right back to UYI tracks being played live well before an album, and of course the Chinese Democracy tracks being played from RIR3 and regularly onwards even years before the album was ready.

Add to that some of the marketing used in the event that said: "Each night, the band will perform an electrifying show featuring a set list created exclusively for The Joint." and that details were kept under wraps but that fans could expect "a few surprise elements. " and that the show "is unlike any show the band has ever done before or will ever do again"

So to me it creates a perfect storm, GNR has not released any new works since 2008, and a good portion of that album was songs they'd already been playing live for what is now 12 years or something, meanwhile we know DJ and the others have been writing new material, and this tour was billed as having some surprises, and comes right off the back of a recent North American tour with near identical setlists....

It just seemed the logical moment for something to happen if there is a plan to move past CD1 and onto a new album or a new era or something.

Hopefully you're right and 2013 sees something develop, but I'm becoming concerned that maybe the operation runs hand to mouth and they just look for markets where they've never played or where it's been awhile for cashflow.

Not even saying it's a nostalga act - it's just many of the touring decisions seem finance related - and not in a sell out way - more like in a "we need to do this" way - consider the USA tour was a scaled back "up close and personal" show - which lowers costs - they've played 2 or 3 private parties and things - the big shows have neen directed to places where the band has not played much and where the location of the place could command and afford decent fees - such as the middle east, russia...and the next stop is india.

If that's the case I don't begrudge them for it if they need the money, but I'm also not confident they'd make an album next year as that tends to run expensive.
