Re: World War Z official trailer

This just released today. Looks alright; but this film's development has had a ton of problems with rewrites, losing touch with the book (Which I need to pick up and read one of these days), and other negative factors. Plus it may probably be PG-13; so no extreme zombie violence I suppose. hmm Let's hope for the best I suppose.

Doesn't wow me. Seems out of character for Brad Pitt. He's established himself as such a Oscar-caliber actor in recent years. It's weird to see him as an action star.

As far as the violence goes, I wouldn't worry too much. The Walking Dead is a TV-14 television series, and is gory as hell. WWZ will probably be "as violent".

Running zombies are lame.

Agreed! There was a little too much over indulgence of CGI in the trailer for the zombies and it didn't look realistic. I love CGI; but it just doesn't work for horror type situations in film most of the time.

Based only on the trailer, I'm proclaiming this movie to be poo. Liked the column of zombies effect at the end though.

Anyone who likes this kind of thing should read the book though, it's a bucket full of awesome.

I agree. It broke my heart when I started seeing it in George Romero's more recent Dead films.

CGI in horror just looks cheap and fake. It might work for TV series for brief moments, but even then it has to be quality.

I'm just old fashioned. I think throwback Tom Savini or Greg Nicotero old school effects are best for horror.

Biggest fault about zombie movies, I can never buy that the whole world would be infected by something that requires direct contact. Slow moving or not.

That's why I think "end of the world", more religious theories work better, ala the Voodoo explanation in Dawn of the Dead and the Christian explanation in Day of the Dead. Walking Dead is supposed to be about infection, but he best explanation that ever happened on that show was Hershel's Christian spin. Plus I think it's creepier, because there's literally no return from something like that. Using a virus explantion gives the impression it's reverseable. Using the God explanation is scarier, because it dooms us all. It's our destiny. Our fate. This is the end. My only friends. The end.

It's the only way to buy into the zombie apocalypse thing.

Fast zombies, and it's just plain over. Slow zombies, ala the WWZ book- we've got a chance, but only if everyone gets on the same page relatively fast. The strength of the shamblers that overcomes their slowness is that they never tire.

For the best religious take on zombies, hands down, go see Prince of Darkness. It's a bit aged, what with the giant porn mustache on the lead and the girls' hairdos, but it's a terrifying movie to this day.

I don't have to go see it. I've got it on DVD. One of my favorite John Carpenter movies, fantastic soundtrack, Donald Pleasence & Alice Cooper in the same film... 'nuff said.

Creepy ass movie, and a SORELY underrated gem from Carpenter's later 80's, and ignored catalog.

Believe it or not, I heard a rumor that the plot for Prince of Darkness was Carpenter/Hill's original idea for Halloween IV when they were renegotiating -- had it continued the anthology format set forth in Halloween III. They had two ideas, this one continued the Halloween III format, and they had another Michael Myers story that never got made once Moustapha Akkad won the series back in court and released Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers in 1988 a year later.

In some strange way, like H3... Halloween IV: Prince of Darkness -- it still works as both a stand-alone and a Halloween entry.
