I can see why people in the tourist industry in Las Vegas aren't happy with it, and I personally think it's pretty unfair that some of you are basically saying "Who gives a shit - its Vegas afterall". Imagine the backlash if the following were on our big red buses, tubes and high rises in London:-

Whether the chick in the artwork has been raped or not is irrelevant. It is never going to go down well (with locals or tourists) when a chick, with her tits out and pants down, is photoshopped next to famous landmarks.

Agreed 100% Promotional ads featuring a woman who has clearly been raped with her tits hanging out and panties around her ankles and most of you are scratching your heads wondering why and how anyone could find this offensive? Huh? If it was simply posters for sale fine but not billboard material. Agree with -D- 100% the overwhelming attitude being expressed here reaks of a bunch of fanboys who have had their common sense clouded by.... something. It'sa RAPE scene and being used as a promotional tool. You don't have be all that smart to realize why some would find it in appropriate and offensive and to be honest I don't blame that "vocal minority" I ersoanlly don't have a problem with it but I'm not naive enough to think people who do are being idiots.
AND the posters and name of the "tour" is fucking stupid to begin with. Appetite for Democracy? Pathetic.

I can see why some people find it offensive.
However I see this as part of a greater problem. It doesnt matter what you do these days if you look hard enough you will find someone, somewhere that is "offended" by what you do or say. So the answer is to have a homogenous society were everyone thinks the same and if they don't we punish them.
Pretty stupid obviously but this is where we are heading. A small number of people take issue with something so we aim to appease them, fuck what the majority think.
What's even funnier is people that like to get offended on behalf of other people. They truly are the scourge on society.

I can see why women would find it offensive. And it's the job of some women to be offended.
The great thing about buying AFD when I was a kid was finding that picture inside. And I knew my parents would have gone ape-shit if they had seen it. End of story. They would have yanked it from me. It's a very provocative picture and that kind of art always offends someone. I love the picture, but it was a bad decision to use it as promotion.
I never felt comfortable with the GN'R t-shirt that used that picture, either.

it is pretty offensive...but hell any more i get kinda pissed that sex is used to sell everything...
my kids are old enough to start asking questions now....it sucks lol
but yeah i get it...vegas is a city on the edge of debauchery so they probably figured it would be cool to use....but hey its getting noticed if nothing else

I dont find it offensive but ive never been battered or raped. If it was just a political figure, sure, but a womans shelter has every right. Shouldnt turn rape into something cool
Turning it into something cool is a judgement call, completely. And I think an unfair one at that. I'd like to think a very small minority would take a look at that photo and think, "rape is cool". Maybe I'm naive though.
It's stupid. I'm sorry, if I sound insensitive. You don't like it. Don't look at it. There's no need to raise awareness and get the picture taken down. There's far more pressing issues to attend to. This photo wasn't causing harm to anyone directly. Yeah, yeah, go on and tell me how millions of women (or even one) were horrified when they saw it and couldn't go on with their normal daily routine. I'm sorry. I'm not buying it. It's a way for the women's shelter to make some noise for themselves and nothing more than that. Carry on.

There's a few interesting things about it.
On one hand the picture does clearly denote some kind of violent sexual assault. Although as Axlin alluded to whether it is a glorification of that or a criticism of that / artistic statement about sexuality is open for interpretation.
That said....
It's curious that this particular image seems to still evoke such furore given it clearly denotes a form of unrealistic situation (robots etc) in the context of the prevalence of aggressive sexual images in general in the mainstream media, and the continual sexualisation of younger demographics including underage people, not to mention the ever increasing amount of online pornography and the disturbing trends seen in that area which not only get ever more explicit and fetish oriented but now often involve mocking/tricking/hurting the female partner, or otherwise starting to present borderline abusive and violent acts as normal sexual conduct.
So in "the scheme of things" it seems odd that anyone singled this out as such a bad thing. It's not that it isn't offensive per say, it's that it's a drop in the ocean.
Meanwhile it's also curious that the complaints actually got a response. Does Eminem start censoring his music when people don't like what he says about women? It's surprising that someone complaining actually got a foot in the door to me on such issues.
