Re: Soundgarden "Been Away Too Long" Premiere
Bones of Birds is fucking killer. This album is going to be epic. They are still progressing. One of the main things I love about SG is the fact that no album sounds like any other. When I first heard about the SG reunion/upcoming album, I was hoping for the progression that looked to be coming with what was one of their last recorded songs( Karaoke). For the couple people who may not have heard it....

Didn't happen that way of course but I am definitely pleased so far with what we've heard. This was always a pipe dream and I thank the musical gods(and the band) for continuing what is easily one of the greatest bands in history.
If any of you SG fans want a good laugh, in one of the GNR threads a few days ago people were talking about GNR's 'formula'. I mentioned SG's resume this past couple years as being perfect for what these types of bands need to do. A few disagreed and said they "weren't sure" what SG has done the past two years(and what else is coming is better than what GNR has accomplished in 2010-2012.
Yeah sure..... like GNR fans wouldn't shit their pants if CD era GNR released songs on soundtracks, new song on a GH, recorded on tour, released an album and with another album or box of rarities after King Animal.
No offense to those in that thread. I love everyone in the community. Just thought it was hilarious that a band that's all action/no talk would be considered inferior in their strategy to GNR. Also funny was the comments about no one caring about SG's new music even though all 3 songs so far have charted MUCH higher than CD's singles.

Yeah you can't help but draw comparisons between the way Axl did it and the way SG are doing it. As a fan of both bands, its from one extreme to the other definitely. CD was the most amatuerishly released album in history where in SG aren't putting a foot wrong here.
You're right James, this is a pipe dream from heaven.
They are marketing the buildup to this beautifully - i may be luke warm on the first single but i have zero doubts this is going to be another landmark chapter in their glorious history...

That is a killer tune. Haven't heard it before. By the way awesome new name dude.
Bones of Birds sounds tasty. Haven't paid much attention to the new SG. The song on the radio is alright. I should pay a little more attention. Someone did tell me I had Chris Cornell hair over the weekend
I'll prolly pick it up when it is released.

BLS, I know you've always hated that grunge era but you should really give SG another chance. You're a hardcore metal fan so you should definitely check out the albums Ultramega OK and Badmotorfinger. Those two albums are as close to "real metal" as it gets in their discography.
Here's a few songs from Ultramega OK. If you like them, download the whole album.

One of my favorite SG tunes. For the record, that is an unreleased demo. It REALLY shows the quality of their albums when they have unreleased material like that in their vaults. Here's another song that showed up as a B side that is top notch quality and one of THE best songs from the Superunknown sessions that they didn't put on the album. I was hoping an updated version of this track would be on the album but its not going to be. When the rarities box set comes out at some point, I'll be drooling for either a rerecorded version or just the demo being polished up.

Both those songs are incredible. The quality of their unreleased songs are better than anything new bands are coming out with now.
I really hope after this album drops they decide to finally release a box set of a bunch of unreleased tracks.
Re: Soundgarden "Been Away Too Long" Premiere
Bones of Birds sounds fucking awesome! Man I am ALL OVER this album on release day. I haven't felt like that about a release since AIC's return, ironically.
Been Away Too Long made an appearence last week on Sons of Anarchy. Nice placement. Song is starting to grow on me (subliminal messaging? motorcycles, guns, biker pussy, King Animal?) I don't know, either way the song sounds a little better. Live To Rise remains superior though.
It's also cool to see Lofton excited about music again. I know this sounds weird, but the dude gets so passionate about it, and for a long time you could just tell in his posts that music bummed him the fuck out, especially after MIA blew up her fucking career for no reason.
Literally cannot wait for new SG!

I swear, you guys have different ears to mine... Live To Rise is outright boring to me, while Been Away Too Long, fucking rocks start to finish.
And I still think it could sit right alongside My Wave, Spoonman, Superunknown and Kickstand, and not be out of place at all.
One thing we can all agree is that the album should be great!

If its close to on par with Superunknown, I'll be happy.
Badmotorfinger is great, but is way more metal sounding than the direction any of these new songs (we've heard) sound like.
Would love to hear some material like Jesus Christ Pose or Rusty Cage though!
