(03-02) 14:31 PST Jenner -- A homicide victim was found early this morning in a beach parking lot along Highway 1, just south of the small hamlet of Jenner, authorities said.
At 1:15 a.m., state park rangers found the victim, shot to death, in a lot near Blind Beach, a popular spot for hikers, surfers and sunbathers known for its large rock formations.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department said in a brief written statement that it had responded and was investigating the killing at the request of parks department officials. No gender was given for the victim.
Lt. Scott Dunn, who prepared the statement, provided no further details.
A 2-foot-wide blood stain remained in the lot this afternoon where the victim was found. Several miles inland from the scene, detectives were scouring a spot off Highway 116 for clues.
In August 2004, an engaged young couple from the Midwest was shot dead from close range as they lay in sleeping bags on an isolated, unmarked beach just north of Jenner's shops and tourist inns. That scene was about one mile north of where today's homicide occurred, but sheriff's authorities said they believe the latest killing is unrelated to the 2004 incident.
Jason Allen, 26, of Zeeland, Mich. and 22-year-old Lindsey Cutshall of Fresno, Ohio - the 2004 victims - were taking a break from working at a Christian ministry in the Sierra foothills when they were killed. The case remains unsolved, and investigators still don't know why the couple was targeted.

Nowadays, you really can't sleep in sleeping bags out in the middle of no where because some sick bastard is going to be a copy cat of the Zodiac.
