Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread

Yeah but I think Murray's power hungry. He should've made a move at the deadline to spark the team, he should've gotten a goalie. But he didn't so he could put the focus on blaming Paddock for a lackluster team instead of focusing on a new player adding some more talent and heart to the team. I think he just wants the glory of a potential cup for himself.

Didn't Ottawa do this same thing a few years ago?

TSN said last night that Murray tried a deal with Chicago exchanging Emery and Gerber for Khabibulin and Lalime.  2 goalies for 2 goalies would be a ridiculous move and I'm not sure bringing Lalime back to Ottawa would solve anything.  He was ran out of town the last time.  Either way, Murray just needs control of this team.  You said he didn't make moves at the deadline, but I think that was smart... he picked up Stillman and Commodore a couple of weeks ago and that's really the kind of move that should've sparked the team.  They really needed a goalie though.  I figure that they were hoping Emery will start playing at the level he's being paid at.

Hossa sprained his MCL last night in his Pittsburgh debut.  It looked rather nasty, but they're saying he could return in a week.

Not gonna happen... 13 15

If the Habs win tonight, they'll be first in the Northeast.  Now that the Caps have beaten the Devils, it sets up a good game tomorrow night for first overall in the East.  GO HABS GO!

Pens got Hossa from the Thrashers for Colby Armstrong, Erik Christenson and Angelo Esposito and a first round pick. pens got screwed on that deal

So did the Habs and Sens.

Bryan Murray says Sens are done dealing... they still don't have a quality goalie.
I hope something trickles through for Montreal.  Otherwise, this year's a wash.

Emery is an outstanding goaltender, but he has to get his personal life in order. They should have addressed this earlier in the season and helped the guy. Hopefully, he'll smarten up, he's got too much going for him to let it all go to hell. Too much strife going on in the locker room, and it's going to send the Sens further down in the standings if Murray doesn't get things under control, and quickly.

Pens gave up too much for a rental. No guarantee that Hossa signs with the Pens after the season, and they gave up three players and a first rounder for a possible rental? If Hossa signs with the Pens, then either Malkin or Crosby will have to go, as they can't afford all three of them on the team. What in the hell was Shero thinking with this move?

Habs losing their best playoff goaltender- PRICEless.  Price needed a veteran presence to help guide him into his first playoff season, what a huge mistake thinking Price and Halak are going to carry the team far. Price is an excellent goaltender, but he's just a kid, as is Halak. What a foolish risk for them to take getting ride of Huet. And, just how in the hell does Hal Gill and Martin Lapointe fetch more than Huet does? Marty fucking Lapointe? Wow. I couldn't believe that Gainey basically gave away Huet for a draft pick, to which this years and next years draft is not too promising. Sadly, Gill is already hated by Pens fans.........

Watch out, Habs , there's new kids in our town, and they're gonna crush your players at a rink near you. 14

I didn't understand the Huet move, but Price is playing well so far.  He led Hamilton to the Calder Cup (as a rookie) last year, but this is the big league.  If he and the team keep playing well, they might have a shot.

Scarlett, as for your Bruins, they have a better shot at catching Ottawa than Montreal.  tongue

Big day today... Montreal is going into tonight 2nd in the East.  Ottawa and Pittsburgh are facing off this afternoon and if Ottawa wins today and the Habs win in regulation tonight, Montreal's 1st.  If Pittsburgh wins, they're first, unless the Habs/Devils game goes to OT.  Too many scenarios, but it's almost as if the NHL's schedulers did this on purpose.

How would I have said that when Huet played his first two seasons with the Kings? 13  Find a quote on any site where I said Huet would ever lead the Habs to a Cup?  He was never good enough on his own for that. 19

I never said Price would lead them to the Cup this year... I said they'd have a shot.  They could win a playoff round or two with him the way they're going, but I can't see anyone getting past Pittsburgh in the East if their goaltending keeps up in the playoffs.  If the Habs get lucky and face a few teams with injuries or that just aren't clicking, they could squeak through.  Still, I'm 95% sure the Cup will stay in the west.  Anaheim, San Jose, Dallas, and Detroit (if they ever get back on track) are too good.

In any event, up until last year's Calder Cup, I said Carey Price was way overrated during his Junior career.  He was labeled as outstanding during the World Jrs a couple years ago and I just didn't see it.  What I saw was one of the best defensive Junior teams in recent memory who happened to score goals when necessary.  He stole the show in the AHL playoffs though.

With Streit, Komisarek, Markov, and Hamrlik as pretty consistent defensemen, you could put Andre Racicot in net and win a playoff round.  Especially if Kovalev, Plekanec, Kostitsyn, and Higgins score 4 or 5 goals a night.
