I was stoked when I first heard about this a few years ago, but I'm not too sure about it now that I know the plot... Still going to read it though. big_smile

The sequel to Stephen King's 'The Shining' gets a release date
Thirty-six years after Stephen King published 'The Shining,' his sequel – titled 'Doctor Sleep' – is scheduled to come out in September 2013.

By Molly Driscoll, Staff Writer / September 24, 2012

“Doctor Sleep,” which will follow Danny Torrance as an adult, will be released Sept. 24, 2013.
In the sequel, Danny is now a worker at a nursing home who becomes known as "Doctor Sleep" because of his psychic abilities, which he uses to give comfort to those who are dying. After meeting a young girl with powers like his own, he embarks on a quest to save her from a tribe called the True Knot which ingests the psychic powers of children known as the “shining.”

Could still be cool.

Oh yeah I read about this on the internet a few months ago, It was quite intriguing. If the book becomes a success and lives up to the hype and potential, then a film version will bound to follow.

I hope it gets a good director. They've probably already sold the film rights to it.

I also read in the book he's still haunted by the spirits of the overlook. I wonder if it means his father?

If that happens, then I need to pick up this book. Maybe Stanley wants to give it another go? 14

I love Kubrick and the movie. I guess that's the difference between a fan of Bon Jovi and a real rocker. 16

The original Shining film is a total spine-tinging classic. One of the truely creepiest films i've ever watched. Kubrick was a genius on that flick, as well as the entire cast. Book was even better.

The problem I have with a sequel, is what made The Shining great had literally NOTHING to do with the actual "Shining" or Danny Torrance. It was everything else that kicked ass.

You have a point! I'm just hoping it's worth a read if he has spent awhile working on it.

I always thought King's adaptions sucked major ass compared to his actual novels. My favorite novel of his, Pet Semetary, has still yet to receive anything remotely resembling a good treatment other than a kick ass late-era Ramones song.

I just always thought The Shining was the one cinematic exception that was "blow you away", and the other was The Stand TV mini-series. The rest blow major chimp.
