Re: Top 10 Heavy Metal Albums (RS Readers)
These lists come out all the time, and always seem to have glaring flaws, but nonetheless.

Rolling Stone Readers Pick Their Top Ten Heavy Metal Albums
by VVN MUSIC on SEPTEMBER 20, 2012
Last Friday, Rolling Stone asked their on-line readers to select what they thought were the greatest heavy metal albums of all-time.
Of course, actually defining what is heavy metal and what isn’t is a bit of a problem.
Obviously, Metallica, who has four of the top ten, and Black Sabbath, who score two, are the epitome of heavy metal. Iron Maiden and Slayer could also fall into that category, but Guns N’ Roses? Are they really metal or just an all-out hard rock band?
And then there is the case of Led Zeppelin. They’re blues-rock, hard rock, rock-and-roll, but can they really be considered heavy metal?
So, here are the ten albums that the readers considered heavy metal and considered great, but maybe they aren’t all great heavy metal.
1. Master of Puppets – Metallica
2. Paranoid - Black Sabbath
3. Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath
4. The Number of the Beast – Iron Maiden
5. …And Justice For All – Metallica
6. Reign in Blood – Slayer
7. Appetite For Destruction – Guns N’ Roses
8. Metallica (Black Album) – Metallica
9. Led Zeppelin II – Led Zeppelin
10. Ride the Lightning – Metallica

Puppets has better production than Justice, and is the better album of the two, song-wise. Although I listen to Justice a lot more than Puppets these days, so I can see why you'd say that Russ.

There's elements of metal in both Zeppelin and GN'R, but they're both rock bands, not metal.

I'm probably gonna get destroyed for this, but I've never understood why people like Puppets more than Justice.
While I understand fully why Puppets is considered their best record... Pound For Pound, I'll take Justice... It's a masterpiece. The intro to Blackened is STILL the most epic album opener ever recorded.

Heavy Metal needs GNR to be associated with Metal. But they ate just a Hard Rock band. But they can rock as hard as any metal band.

That's my point though. If you listen to it far more and therefore prefer it over the other, doesn't that make it the better of the two?
I think it's more of a case that I've listened to Puppets way too much. Although I listen to Justice more these days, I still think Puppet is the better album of the two.
Justice is definitely worthy of that list though, such an aggressive, progressive metal masterpiece!:mosh:
