Hard-rocking Kid Rock showed his softer side when he was on hand to present a new home he helped finance to a severely injured Army veteran in Michigan over the weekend.
The Born Free singer joined forces with Operation FINALLY HOME, a non-profit charity that builds homes for American troops wounded at war, and Pulte Homes to give Sgt. Davin Dumar and his wife, Dana, the surprise of their life.
The Mount Clemens native was stunned when he was given a mortgage-free 2,600-square-foot colonial home in Macomb Township and found Rock, along with friends and relatives waiting to show them around a model of their new home.
Dumar, who lost the lower part of his right leg in combat in Afghanistan said, “I don’t know what to say other than shock and amazement,” after walking into the home.
The generous gesture is part of an ongoing project by the Texas-based non-profit Operation FINALLY HOME.
Company founder Dan Wallrath, who was named as one of CNN’s Heroes in 2010, met Kid Rock, 41, at a previous event and the singer suggested building some homes for injured troops in Michigan, where Rock hails from.
Wallrath told RadarOnline.com, "Operation FINALLY HOME is truly humbled and honored to be working with Kid Rock and Pulte Group in providing Sgt. Dumar and his wife a custom made mortgage free home.
"Kid Rock’s personal involvement in making this happen is beyond words. He is a true friend to the men and women in uniform and believes as we do that these young men and women have earned these homes on the battlefield and it is our job to find a way to give them the American Dream they have fought for. We must help our neighbors first!”

I think that's awesome. Finally some more rockers doing good in the world and helping out their fellow neighbor. A way to make the world a better place. There are many troops that need help getting through these tough times coming back.
