James has a very good band made up of some very talented though not as well known musicians.  I would probably say that Cornell is a better singer than Lennon was.  Certainly Nick Menza is a better drummer than Mickey Dolenz.

My band's strength is in the songwriting, and the fact that Sting and McCartney in their primes more than make up for whatever advantage Cornell has over Lennon.  In addition, the flexibility in my band makes them superior to James' band.  EVH can hold his own against BH.  My band can play more #1 hits that they wrote/performed in their careers than any band in the competition; while we all know popularity doesn't necessarily reflect quality, the sheer volume of #1s screams that at least some of them were pretty darn good.

The setlist this band could play would be absolutely unbelieveable and short of death metal, I believe this band is top level in a variety of musical styles.

This was a very tough choice to make.  And I opted for Buzz's band mainly because with Lennon's lyrics and Richards and Van Halen's music writing.  This could've been an amazing band.  Plus I agree.  Their setlist would simply be too awesome.

Agreed! That's what I was thinking as well. Sir Paul's bass playing has a unique sound to it and him & Lennon are always magical together on stage and in the studio.

You're missing out on something pretty special.  They may be pretty poppy compared to most of the rock since then, but without them I'm not sure we'd have any of the great music since then.  I'm pretty sure Lennon-McCartney wrote the first hit for the Stones.  They influenced almost all of the musicians of the next generation who influenced the next generation and so on.

I can understand not liking their early stuff, but I hope someday you can appreciate the growth and development they showed over a 6-7 year period and how much quality music they put out in that period of time.

yeah, i'm not giving up on them. probably i have to find the right time and mood to start listening.
and it's not necessarily because it's more pop than rock, i'm listening to all kinds of music. plus a lot of musicians from different generations say that they've been influenced by them so they are definitely on my 'study' list.
