This millionaire's birthday party is not the first occasion when Axl's whoring out himself and Guns N' Roses. He made many private shows in the past few years and many 'fashion parties'. You are right that there is a difference between playing with Black Eyed Peas and playing for millionaires. The first can be done for a friend, the second is done for the money. Here lies your answer.

Oh, and don't forget that Axl doesn't care about money and fame. It's official. His people claimed it in a press release.

Don't fool yourself, it's ALL done for money.  You can paint the picture anyway you want, but Slash jamming with "friends" isn't as simple as just that.  The exposure helps him greatly, getting the forum in a different setting than he normally plays to.  Axl's way of doing business if a bit more blunt.  Obviously he's in it for the money.  They ALL are.  But who's to say he's not friends with John Varvatos or any of these millionaires who have him play at their events?  Is Slash kicking it with Doug E. Fresh on a daily basis?

Slash is definitely about making a buck.  Even when it's playing with friends it's about how they can make a buck out of it.  I don't begrudge him that, he's got a talent so he might as well flog it.

I do disagree with some of his choices, I think he should be more discerning, but other than that I think he should pin his ears back and go for it and capitalise on his talent and profile.

Same with Axl he should do the same because he's not going to make money out of selling records anymore.  Doesn't mean he shouldn't make any, since they are the reason to stay fresh and then get out and tour again and make more dollars etc.  But I don't think anyone in the music business can be too proud these days or pretend they have some type of integrity or high moral ground when it comes to selling out.  Reality is if they want to continue to make a dollar from it then they have to be commercial.  That means moving with the times and prostituting yourself to a degree.

Yeah, I have no problem with what Slash or Axl do.  I may have some problems with what Axl DOESN'T do, but that's a different story.  The only real problems I've had with Slash's decisions in the past were appearing on American Idol as a "mentor".  I despise that show, so that was tough to stomach.  If I was a fan of the show, I may have felt different.  I thought the Paradise City cover with Cypress Hill was awful, and the same with that Baby Can't Drive song with Nicole Sherzinger.  But overall, I understand why he does what he does and can't fault him for putting forth the effort.  Axl has made plenty of bad decisions himself over the years, and he doesn't put forth half the effort Slash does.

You fool yourself (and what's much worse, you're trying to fool us) when you preach that Axl's selling-out would be somewhat superior to Slash's and he would have more integrity.

There's a difference between playing with anyone and everyone, and appearing on any show or event to promote yourself than to take a hefty paycheck for playing private gigs.  I know what you're getting at, but the two situations aren't nearly the same.

Yes, playing for huge crowds, playing on released stuff that fans can hear is in fact better than playing behind closed doors for millionaires. That's George Michael's cathegory. And that man's doing this who 'doesn't care about money and fame' 16 What a hypocrite.

I agree that Slash did some guest appearances for the money, but not all of them, for sure. Do you think Elan could offer him enough? Do you think Fergie pays him a dime? Hell, no. Being in the spotlight to help him succeed isn't on the same selling-out level than playing as a millionaire's birthday party band.

jeez we discussing who's the bigger sell-out now? Man.. We really hardly nvr have positive discussions.
I think it was Lars who said, 'GnR sell-out wherever they go'. He wasn't talkin about ticket sales.
Fwiw I lose respect for them both more & more as people & artists but they still have a collection of songs that make-up for it all!

Meh. BBF prob earns more doing one of those private gigs than most of us do in 6 months. Never mind Axl's cut.

Tbh, while I agree it's good the band members communicate to the fans & recognise the frustrations, Ron is starting to come across a little whiney bitch-y.
This isn't the first outburst from him, but he never changes anything or affects the situation. Instead he retreats & swallows the load Beta shoots in his mouth. & you can tell from his complaints that the $$$ must be what keeps him on board.
If he really felt strongly enough he'd do something about it.

I liked the initial tweets. They rang true. Truth is the truth hurts etc. but then he backed down like he always does. I don't want to call him spineless cause it'd be a really dodgy joke, but how many times is he gonna pull this shit? Either man-up or just shut-up y'know?

agree...starting to whine alot...he can always go back to teaching. I am sure he would make the same kinda money.

Meh, again! He's got his soundtrack work to fall back on.
It's like he wants it both ways to be the guy who speaks out but still collect his wages. Just a little hypocritical & whiney. Par for the course of course..
