Re: The Beach Boys celebrate 50 years with new single
Brian Wilson is just pure magic with the boys! I need to listen to the Smile sessions some more once I start listening to the new music I purchased a few days ago. Oh..sweet! Cool combination. Yeah they were going to play in a venue my party went to a few weeks after we saw Van Halen. Hell yeah! I got a few concerts almost finished in the planning stages.

That sucks man! It seemed in the press and some of the interviews that looked like they were getting along. I'm surprised that if the current Van Halen can get along and interact with smiles than why can't the Beach Boys? Sounds like how a GNR reunion would go which people need to realize. Hope you go to another concert that more worth your time and it has better energy!
Re: The Beach Boys celebrate 50 years with new single
Bad news everyone; the show was awful and yes I'm serious.
They sounded amazing and yes the set list was huge. But the show was EXACTLY the way I've always felt a GN'R reunion would go down and the reason I never want to see one.
Not only did no one interact with each other on stage but it was flat out obvious that the all don't care for each other.
40+ song set list? Yes, but absolutely none of the songs were sang with any feeling or sincerity at all. In all honestly, I was so put off by it that I left after the Sloop John B.
Sorry for the shit show.
But i've always disagreed that a GN'R reunion would go down that way. There's a reason Axl has held out all these years, and it's because (imo) he's forcing Slash to cop to the stuff that he did (that I believe Axl that Slash did), and IF they get there...
GN'R is a different beast that the Beach Boys. Axl & Slash have a dynamic on stage (whether together in 1993 or alone in 2012), that either will be a disaster cancelled show, or full blown chemistry.
With how Axl & Slash behave on stage, even today, there's a certain dynamic that I do not think would apply to a "boring GN'R reunion". Axl seems to interact with Izzy & Duff, I don't see why that would change if Slash was there.
Plus, unlike Axl's phoned in performances (such as Rio IV), Axl would not imo carry the same dynamic next to Slash. He'd either be "completely feeling it" and kicking his legs looking at Slash while he belts out Jungle, or he'd look at Slash tell him "i'm going the fuck home" and throw his mic down.
Axl is a maladaptive perfectionist imo. The baseline behavior? "All or nothing".
And I don't see that changing for a GN'R reunion imo.

Beach Boys In Shambles, Al Jardine Petitions Mike Love
by VVN MUSIC on SEPTEMBER 25, 2012
There are two dates left in the Beach Boys reunion tour with all five members, a couple days of rest, and then the Boys will hit the road again. Unfortunately, for fans, any further concerts will only include Mike Love and Bruce Johnston.
Brian Wilson recently told CNN that he couldn’t understand why Love doesn’t want to continue with the reunion as it is currently configured and Al Jardine is also none too happy about not even being asked to continue. Jardine has even gone so far as to start a petition on his Facebook page and at iPetitions.com.
To: Mike Love,
In order to preserve the validity of “The Beach Boys” as a whole, and not as a “money saving, stripped down version” that only contains 1 original member, and 1 member that joined in 1965, we ask you to re-instate the 3 other members to the touring group for your final years performing.
It’s the right thing to do, and it’s what the fans want!
The fans seem to be in firm support of keeping the full group together. One even went as far as saying “When will Mike and Bruce realize that if it weren’t for Brian they’d be lucky if they were playing in an oldies band at the local Elks lodge…well, Bruce maybe. I say Al & David join up with Brian and see which act is the biggest draw…I would give Mike & Bruce maybe one season of county fairs, casinos & ball games before the gigs dry up!”
