Re: Apocalyptic Love FAN reviews
VH that is terrible shit cant say i know anyone who even has a VH album i think i was a bit young when that was popular thank fuck that is 80`s poo
Really? I find it hard to believe you don't like VH's newie, as much as you can't believe I like it!:haha:
It's a really great hard rock album, with great rock guitar playing, like Apocalyptic Love. I just happen to prefer the new VH overall to the Slash album.
And that's not to say Apocalyptic Love ain't a great album, but there are still songs where Myles vocals still grate on me (One Last Thrill, Hard & Fast) and some songs are a little bland outside of what Slash is playing.
Whereas on the VH album, I love nearly every single track, and it sounds almost like classic Van Halen, and then some!
Eddie is on fire throughout the whole album. Someone here had a dig about Dave's singing, and while he's never been a great 'singer' it's not as though he sings flat or out of key, and he still has that same wit and attitude that I love. And there are some great memorable choruses too.
Apocalyptic Love is really great for Slash, and Myles and the band have their moments, but overall, I have to go with Van Halen as the stronger effort, and it definitely feels like a band effort, more than Slash's kinda solo album, with Myles featuring.
I will say though, Apocalyptic Love and A Different Kind Of Truth take the top two slots for me for best rock albums released this year.
Maybe that will please everyone here.

Re: Apocalyptic Love FAN reviews
That's where my head is at with Apocalyptic Love. As for Dave I can understand some of the critics; but I think he sings better on this record than he has in years especially the late 90s and remember that train wreck Diamond Dave album from '03. The man is really just a showman getting people in a good mood. Nothing wrong with that. It really is a band record this time around while VH3 was mostly a EVH solo album with Gary on vocals and Mike and Alex providing a rhythm beat on some of the tracks. Since Eddie plays bass on most of it and experimented a ton on it which kind of hurt the album in a sense.
Re: Apocalyptic Love FAN reviews
This is a good album. It's very even and consistent, which I appreciate. The best songs to me are "Standing in the Sun", "Anastasia", "Not for Me", "Far and Away", "No More Heroes" and "Bad Rain". Slash's playing is great on this record. His ear-pleasing, unique and identifiable tone as well as his wonderful sense of melody are on full display here. I really do think Myles is a great talent and has great technical ability as a singer. However, as evidenced on "Hard & Fast", Myles' tone in his upper register is abrasive to my ears. I do enjoy his vocal tone that he frequently employs in his lower register (a great example is "Open Your Eyes" by Alter Bridge), but he obviously he does not always use that tone. His melodies are good for the most part, but I've never felt he's a great lyricist. The band however is fantastic and their cohesiveness with Slash is very clear and noticeable.
My biggest question now is, where does Slash go from here? He explored a variety of different genres and styles on his first record, and now he's returned to his comfort zone stylistically. How many times can he make this kind of record before the law of diminishing returns sets in for the audience? Of course, that point is different for different people, but after listening to this record, I couldn't help but think of Angus Young and AC/DC. At a certain point for me, there was a complete and utter disinterest in hearing a new record from AC/DC as I had such a strong gut instinct that was reinforced more and more over time that there would be little to no stylistic explorations on new records. I hope that listening experience I had with AC/DC does not hold for Slash.
Nonetheless, perhaps, making a stylistically varied first solo album allowed Slash to return to his roots or comfort zone with the results he did here. Here's hoping it keeps up.

Dude.. how old are you? You really need to actually listen to their albums.
As for Slash, best hard rock record I have heard in a while. And Bad Rain is a sexy tune man. I'm with all those who dig it.
