Re: Remember when...
The statement saying Mysteron had nothing going on besides building up a fake image of an insider is stupid. It doesn't mean the poster is stupid. The statement IS. We all know he had certain connections as told by several posters. One of the best ones is connected to Tommy Stinson, but also tickets concerning both Tommy and GNR.
To say he's a joke is then in my opinion stupid (doesn't mean Bono has a low IQ though), but let's use another word; unecessary.
The guy over-played his hand, built up an image and a myth he couldn't fullfill and dug his own grave. That's it.

That one was actually cool because the 80's geek in me would've ate that up.
Me too man. I ate that rumour and got excited. Joined a pink forum and asked if anyone knew about it.
To this day whenever I hear that song though I think of how Axl would have slayed it!!!
Oh God!! That would be freaking incredible!
Re: Remember when...
Hey, here's a question for the old, old, OLD timers: Were the 2002 VMAs a complete shock to everyone on the forums or did people know ahead of time?
For me personally it wasn't a shock. I don't remember how we knew but I'm pretty sure it was common knowledge within the confines of the Gn'R online world. Maybe to the general public it was a shock but I specifically remember telling people days beforehand it would happen and I watched that entire show to make sure I didn't miss it. I think most hardcore fans at the time knew it was gonna happen and it was NOT like all the other times where "oh Gn'R might show up" this was in fact one time the fanbase knew it was coming.

Agree completely. No need to shit on the guy like some do. And no need to call it "inappropriate" for someone to say it's "stupid". One in the same, isn't it? That's just me though. But seriously, I don't see the problem. As misterID pointed out, there have been far worse things posted on this forum and and nothing was done. I say, let it go. No harm, no foul.
Re: Remember when...
How bout the rumor Axl collaborated with Lionel Richie
I remember that one. This thread is great because I've forgotten about all the weird fucking rumors that were around that time.
I took a break from the GNR boards for like 4 years and some of this is new to me but still these rumors are hilarious.
Anybody remember the rumor that Axl & Ice-T were gonna collaborate on a remix of "Welcome To The Jungle", and if I remember correctly the WWE were gonna use it as a theme song for one of their PPV's.
The other one that was funny was Axl was supposed to be collaborating with Pink on a cover of Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

Yeah I remember those two as well. I guess the Pink one kind of made sense to me since I think she said she was a big Axl fan.

No, I knew ahead of time as well. The online forums or whatever basically leaked that they were backstage rehearsing at the day of the event. It will still a shock seeing them on tv though, even if I knew they were performing.

misterID wrote:Not trying to derail the thread, but you know this wasn't just any "flame war" between two people, when it's involved multiple members here, including you Russ, who didn't throw any insults anybody's way, like you said, just for having a different opinion.
It has caused me to fire back and I did get more aggressive than I should have, especially with Bro-mero (and I apologize for that, dude), only because nothing was being done about it and a blind eye was turned, for some odd reason. I recognized that and took myself out of it. And as far as I can tell, it's still going on, and nothing close to what DCK did...
That's all I'm saying, dude.
I hear ya. I'm not even sure what to suggest anymore on the situation. My best suggestion is just for you two to start a thread somewhere (The Garden maybe?) specifically for arguing. Sounds funny, but that's literally all I got.
Just to be clear, it's not even "insults" that bother me. It's not being able to or wanting to back up. To me there's a difference between these two responses:
You're stupid.
and
I think that's stupid and here's why...
Bono wrote:To be fair I said he was a joke and he was. It was beyond annoying reading his cryptic, vague stuff. Did he come through on some of the stuff he said? Sure but his posts were annoying and I thought his character was a joke. Basically always said shit like "thi will or won't happen" Ooooohhhhh how awesome. If your'e gonna go on a Gn'R board and act like you're the man then fucking say somehting and stop building up your own "legacy" as a big time insider. He built himself up to such extreme levels compared to what he actually was Had Mysteron never posted the Gn'R fanbase would not have missed a thing. We didn't benifit from his inside info.
Hit to nail on the head in the above bold parts. I can't tell you how many times I read stuff from him, got excited and then thought "Well, this is just more 'maybe, maybe not' stuff".
Once again, GREAT thread! Stuff keeps getting mentioned that I'd totally forgotten and it's crazy to think back on all of it.

It's not that he was giving release dates, which would have been stupid
What Mysteron did was give info and validation to people during those dark periods that the band was instill together and CD was going to be released. Without him THAT would not have been known. That was important. He also strangled out 100% of the fakes who popped up.
There was a stretch of time that the only official thing we heard for years was from Mysteron. How could he give out info that Axl didn't even know?
