Re: Apocalyptic Love Song Samples
If I was rich I'd pay Chris Cornell and Slash $10Mil each to get in a room and make me an album with 8 songs the size of 'Coma' and 'Locomotive'.
Cornell is so hit or miss for me though.
When he writes a great song it's fucking brilliant, but there's also a lot of filler to my tastes. I was pretty disappointed in the last slash/cornell collaboration - it was nothing compared to the kind of thing they could make!

Totally agree monkey, very weak tune. Agree with you about CC rolling out lots of sub par music since SG. In this dream scenario I'd probably be the producer too! No filler allowed!

Re: Apocalyptic Love Song Samples
Promise just sounds like Audioslave era Cornell, and I actually dig the tune.
But like you guys are saying, I'd love to hear some Loud Love or Badmotorfinger style CC with Slash riffing!

Re: Apocalyptic Love Song Samples
Yeah...audioslave is the same for me...loved the first album...then there's like 3 or 4 songs I like on the later albums..but there's a lot of bland stuff too.
I was just disapointed because of how much I like the right cornell tracks...even the more recent ones and not just like Slaves and Bulldozers style screams...but for example something like that "You know my name" song for james bond was gold...I was hoping for something a little like that with Slash's touches.

I have an alterbridge song where myles does a cornell type scream...so there's still hope for this album btw

Re: Apocalyptic Love Song Samples
I've dug back into the Alter Bridge catalogue, and they're becoming my fav band at the moment. Some of the stuff off Blackbird is just awesome, including the title track.
If Myles has brought some of that epicness to some heavy Slash riffing, I think Apocalyptic Love could end up being great
Re: Apocalyptic Love Song Samples
Listened to the samples off the new album...
*granted these are just quick 30-second clips*
1. Apocalyptic Love
--- average melody, Slash riffing is awesome
2. One Last Thrill
--- great GN'R energy, sounds kinda like a Mean Bone-vibe
3. Standing In The Sun
--- Slash riffing is great, no real opinion on the rest (too little, shows promise)
4. You're A Lie
--- like I said before, Myles shines here with the real catchy stuff
5. No More Heroes
--- interesting song for Slash, sounds different, like Maroon 5 meets Alter Bridge meets Velvet Revolver
6. Halo
--- great Slash riffs, no real comment on the rest (too little)
7. We Will Roam
--- nice riffing, catchy melody, might be a future single
8. Anatasia
--- WOW, the most different track on the whole album, full on Slash challenging himself -- VERY impressed
9. Not For Me
--- VERY GRUNGE, might show and be a comment on Slash associating with more of those artists as of late, such as Cornell, Cantrell, Grohl, etc.
10. Bad Rain
--- total B-side from what I hear
11. Hard & Fast
--- Myles is beyond grating and annoying. Terrible.
12. Far & Away
--- Nice slow ballad, channeling Starlight & Fall To Pieces, interesting to see where it goes
13. Shots Fired
--- Great riffage, great song, melody/chorus need work. Hopefully there's more behind the "Shots fired..." part at the end. It needs a little something more. Kinda flat.

Re: Apocalyptic Love Song Samples
The title track is a strong Snakepit 2-style rocker... A lot of wahs, even the solo is based on that. Sounds good, but not astonishing for the first listen.
